About Natalia
I studied piano performance with Pascal Devoyon, Piers Lane and Kathryn Stott as well as harpsichord with Virginia Black first completing a degree (Diplom Hauptfach Klavier) in solo piano performance at the Universität der Künste in Berlin (formerly Hochschule der Künste), a masters degree in solo piano performance and research at the Royal Academy of Music, LRAM and subsequently another masters degree in musicology at Royal Holloway.
I have performed at various principal concert venues and festivals such as St. John’s Smith Square, Philharmonie Berlin, Musikhalle Hamburg, Glinka Chapel St. Petersburg, Sommerfestspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommen, Messiaen Southbank Festival and have collaborated with various soloists and ensembles such as the Manson Ensemble at RAM. During my studies I won a number of prizes at various national and international competitions, among which are the First Prize and Sir Philip Ledger Prize at the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition and was awarded a number of scholarships such as the Myra Hess Award, the Sir Richard Stapley Educational Trust Award, and the New Horizons Scholarship from Royal Holloway University of London.
Within the realms of academia, I have given papers on various aspects of music theory and piano performance at the IMR Interconnections Conference and the RMA Postgraduate Student Conference and a lecture recital at RAM juxtaposing performances of Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier on the piano, harpsichord and clavichord. A review was published in Early Music, Oxford University Press. My research focused on Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, German Baroque music theory and 20th-century pianism in the light of cultural studies.
My principal professional development goals revolve around my piano teaching activities. With 15 years of experience I have developed my own curriculum and system of teaching which is grounded in the Russian and French school of pianism and enriched by influences of the English school as well as my experience with early keyboard instruments. While my teaching style does accommodate preparation for any number of exams, Diplomas, concerts, auditions, competitions as well as other formalities and opportunities I am primarily concerned with the development of a functional technique and skills as well as the formation of an extensive repertoire and the acquisition of the ability to read music with ease. I consider it my primary task to not only provide instructions in order to give a craft to a pupil but to turn him/her into an individual independent thinker, a musician seeking a deeper meaning in music and the connections with other arts, literature, poetry, philosophy, religion (where applicable) etc. I see my pupils as holistic human beings who can learn to develop a real interest in music and communicate as well as express themselves through music by acquiring technical proficiency with necessary theoretical/analytical/historical background knowledge tools and applying them to a search for a deeper understanding.
I have worked with pupils of various ages from 2 1/2 years onwards covering all levels from beginners to advanced, Diploma, music degree and post music degree level. Students’ successes include distinctions in ABRSM exams as well as 1st prizes, gold medals, other top prizes, distinctions and successful participation in non-competitive categories at the German national music competition Jugend musiziert, Leigh-On-Sea Music Festival, West London Pianoforte Festival, Maidstone Music Festival, Farnham Competitive Music Festival, Sevenoaks Three Arts Festival, Milton Keynes Music Festival.

Natalia is a brilliant teacher. She is rigorous in her methods, while also being warm and friendly in her approach. She has immense talent as a pianist and is able to convey her passion for both playing the instrument and learning theory to her students. Natalia’s lessons are always enjoyable and it’s amazing to see how much you can improve each week, thanks to her training. I would highly recommend her as a tutor.
Our daughter started learning how to play piano under Natalia's guidance 2 years ago (she was 4). She has made an incredible progress since, both in understanding the theory of music and playing the instrument. Natalia is an engaging and patient teacher and is great in teaching young children, adapting her teaching methods based on children's shorter attention span and making sure they enjoy learning and don't see it as a chore. Natalia encouraged our daughter to perform in front of an audience and made sure they had a suitable and well-practiced repertoire for the occasion. Natalia takes a real ownership of our daughter's progress, suggesting new books, pieces and adapting the length and schedule of lessons.
Natalia is clearly a very accomplished musician and pianist. I valued her honesty and approach to correct my technique as well as her patience with be as an adult beginner. Lessons are tailored and enjoyable and with the required push for improvement.
Natalia is an excellent piano teacher. Her approach is thorough and nurturing and Natalia provides excellent mentoring for the pupil to develop their own autonomy in the areas of practice responsibilities and aesthetic awareness, preferences and judgements. Whilst her attention to detail in monitoring the pupil's musicality of playing, technique and sight-reading is impeccable, Natalia's approach is holistic and includes a strong awareness of the pupil's physical and mental wellbeing while progressing with the piano and gives an excellent grounding in general musicianship and philosophies of music.
I have been a student with Natalia for a few years now. Her approach to music is holistic, uses a variety of teaching methods and illustrations to make each concept very clear. Has a great ability to encourage and motivate to excellency. Provides the possibility of borrowing books from her extensive music library. An asset that allows you to grow in knowledge and understanding of the different aspects of piano playing. In short, she is a complete piano teacher and her playing is amazing!
I've been Natalia's pupil for 6 years. I can say that I am very lucky I found this wonderful teacher. Natalia is great musician with deep knowledge who can open "new world of music" for her pupils. She has very high standards of teaching, always explains what caused this or that mistake and how to fix it. But also tries to make you think about the whole piece you are playing, understand the "soul" of music. She teaches with enthusiasm, never indifferent to her pupils. Her approach to the process of teaching is not formal, every time you find out a lot of new information, it's always very interesting and at the same time she makes you meet your goals.
