After a very disrupted period of education, my daughter was tutored by Miranda in the lead up to history A level. Miranda was fantastic at helping her consolidate her knowledge, practice and improve her timed essay writing skills and gave her real confidence which she’d lacked previously.

My daughter so far has had three sessions in History with Miranda ahead of her Mocks at A-level.
She needed support in approaches to tackle questions and with issues with staffing at her current place of study, Miranda has been able to support her in this aspect. Fingers crossed these sessions will improve her grade to enable her to access the university of her choice.
We intend to continue to use Miranda over the next year to support in both History and Politics at A-level.

I had two sessions with Miranda to work on a conference paper. She was great and extremely professional. Helped me reviewing the writing in a timely and efficient manner, besides making the text more suitable for an oral presentation. I would recommend her to any graduate or undergraduate student looking for someone to review essays and class assignments.
If you need a teacher to get you an A*/7 in history, Miranda is the teacher you need. She teaches me IB history HL and is amazing. I found her only two weeks before my mocks in January and with only 4 lessons she raised my grade from a 5, which I achieved in last year's mocks, to a 7 across all 3 of my history papers in this year's mocks. She is great at teaching content and most importantly essay structuring and planning, which are my weak points. Using Miranda's techniques I now have many level 7 exemplar essays and essay plans which will be very useful for my revision. Moreover, I am now confidant in how to tackle the essay questions in paper 1 and 3, and the questions in the source paper. Miranda does not waste time as she is quick and great at pinpointing your weak areas. She then tailors the lessons effectively to improve them. She is also great at listening to any queries you have concerning the course and helping you solve them. Her wealth of knowledge is astounding and especially useful for IB History as we cover a range of periods in our course. Overall,
Miranda is amazing at tackling all aspects of the IB history course you may need help with. Our lessons are never dull and I very much look forward to them. It is notoriously hard to find a good IB teacher and I am glad I found Miranda. I wish I had found her during my GCSEs.Miranda is an excellent tutor. She tutors our daughter in IB History and our daughter describes her as simply phenomenal. Having had experience of the IB programme herself, Miranda is able provide much more than just the required subject content. Such is the clarity and confidence that my daughter now has in tackling questions that she moved from a 6 up to a 7 during her mock exams in 1 month. My daughter is quite studious but Miranda quickly identified areas that could be improved and was able to refine mainly her writing technique. The analytical and essay writing skills that my daughter has developed from Miranda’s lessons will find application in numerous other fields. My daughter really appreciated her help on the course work.
Miranda is an exceptional advisor for school applications, fellowships, and CVs. She is skilful at improving the narrative and flow of essays, providing solid recommendations for what to keep and what to cut. She is able to identify areas that benefit from shortened word count and helped me target which ideas to highlight to the decision committee. Most of all, she gave me greater confidence in editing my own work and helped me improve my approach to applications. I have greater confidence as a result and can use these skills to apply for additional fellowships, grants, and funding to support my educational and professional aspirations. Further, she is an expert at CV development and helped me improve the clarity and focus, allowing me to convey the essential information without jargon or clutter. I strongly recommend that anyone looking to polish their applications for admission to higher education, seeking a job or career change, or applying for fellowships spend a few hours getting her perspective and advice.
Miranda has been a excellent tutor for international politics and affairs. She has been planning lessons and tutoring students for years, having started while completing secondary school. Her technical skills are thus well honed, and her confident manner bespeaks her exceptional grasp of the material. On that front, she's highly practiced at breaking down complicated topics into manageable chunks while retaining the nuance that others might lose; I have never seen someone explain the ins and outs of the civil wars of the Middle East--to take just one example--as well as Miranda has. Her strong commitment and high motivation for tutoring reflects itself in the excellent progress of her students and the enthusiasm she inspires in them.
I am a sophomore at Columbia University and I have known Miranda Melcher for almost four years, and I can say with confidence that she is one of the most competent person I know.
I met Miranda while serving as chair and secretary of conference for YALE Model United Nations 2014 and 2015. I had the opportunity to work closely with Miranda who was the Director General of Operations at the time. As Director General, Miranda was responsible for facilitating the 3-day conference to training each staff. At the first training session for chairs, she ran through guidelines and gave very specific directions that informed us on exactly how to run a committee. She was succinct, yet her command of the material through preparation and knowledge of international politics allowed her to answer any questions regarding my committee of illegal immigration in the EU. Thanks to her charisma, we were able to go through the material in an organized fashioned, that made each chair feel comfortable with our jobs.
My second year as secretary of conference, I constantly had to work with Miranda to fix the venue, the vendors, and to ensure the conference was running smoothly. Whenever we ran into a problem, she was there in person to take responsibility and remedy the situation. Her professional attitude and practical solutions to inconveniences are still memorable. In addition, she constantly reached out to staffs to make them feel comfortable as well as on track with their work. From the months of planning and the rigorous work during the conference, I saw how Miranda did her best to provide all participants their best experience. I have no doubt that in any job or field she pursues, she will be the same responsible and professional person striving to work for the betterment of others. It was during my high school junior year I met Miranda. I was working as one of the assistant secretary generals at Yale Model United Nations Korea where she was the Secretary General. That year, the conference took off in a new direction under Miranda's instruction. She successfully employed a new MUN procedure, representing her strength in organizing.
More importantly, her depth of knowledge in international relations and politics was clear as she was able to spot out people who were not fully aware of their countries' positions since she never failed to not know. Her passion towards politics and eagerness to let people be aware of it continued post conference. Through her blog "Small World," she kept me updated with political issues. Ever since then till now, articles from diverse sources enlighten me.
I am delighted to recommend Miranda as a tutor, for I have been under her instruction of quality. She is without a doubt one of the very best tutors you can get around the world. I believe the below list of schools I have been accepted guarantees her quality.I highly recommend Miranda Melcher as a tutor for Politics and History related subjects. My tutor-tutee relationship with Miranda began in middle school. She was the founder of our middle/high school's MUN system, and tutored the first few years of MUN students for 3 years. During the time, she taught me personally not just the structure and logistics of the functionality of the UN and global issues, but more so helped me develop my public speaking skills and english writing skills. She was the ideal source for all of her students and friends to go to for any international relations or history related issues. She always had a well-supported argument when discussing politics and world issues, and was never caught misinformed with any issue. Most importantly, she was extremely easy to approach and always had the perfect and most logical way of explaining anything to us. Her patience further helped us understand any issues we had. Having to speak in front of a hundred or so people was not a skill easily acquired by a middle school student. But from Miranda's guidance and training, I was able to grow into a very confident public speaker.
Miranda is incredibly intelligent, driven, and hard-working. Her curiosity and thirst for learning is infectious, and no matter the topic of conversation, I can talk with her for hours on end without exhausting her immense store of knowledge.
Miranda's wheelhouse is international affairs, and she is unusually skilled at explaining the intricacies of history and politics in a clear and easy-to-understand manner.
Miranda moved to China while in primary school, and became fluent in Mandarin. Having learned the language as a native English speaker makes her an excellent candidate to teach it to other native English speakers.
Overall, I strongly recommend Miranda as a tutor for history, politics, Mandarin, and English. In terms of subject matter, Miranda commands an incredible variety of knowledge. She is a fabulous writer, due to skills developed by being a voracious reader (I have met few people that read more than her) and producing dozens of thoughtful papers on politics and literature, in addition to maintaining a blog that curates articles on interesting happenings around the world. Her ability to recall any country's history and explain it's current affairs is fascinating to listen to. Should you have a question regarding international relations, you'd be hard pressed to find someone better.
Miranda, however, excels most at teaching, specifically communicating her knowledge to others in a way that they can understand, no matter how long it takes. She is able to take complex problems like "clearer writing" or "better essay structure" and break them down into simpler steps that make improvement feasible and recognizable. Personally, when I began taking seminar classes at Yale, classes that require synthesis of loads of reading and long paper writing, Miranda helped me pick a topic, understanding, and build a structure that made my argument easy to follow and support. The sentence perhaps implies that the process was simple. It was not. But Miranda's patience and specific suggestions made my writing improve dramatically by the end of the semester.
But I am not the only one to benefit from Miranda's teachings. In our organization, which plans Model UN conferences for high-schoolers, Miranda successfully trained dozens of college students on how to communicate with children and push them to think of solutions to the complex problems. Shy first years were able to command rooms of 60-70 children for three days and spark and interest in international relations.Miranda was a teacher in the Hemispheres Program, where new Haven high school students follow weekly lessons in International Relations, History and Political Science. She was always well-prepared for class, and taught with poise and wit, carefully tailoring the content to the students. She was an interactive and engaging teacher, with a creative eye on teaching these complex issues. Some of the topics I witnessed Miranda teach about include civil wars, the UN system, Chinese involvement in Africa, or the South China Sea. Her depth of knowledge is astounding -- I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a tutor in the social sciences, and beyond.
I've known Miranda for about five years. She and I worked together on several Model United Nations Conferences during our time as undergraduate students at Yale University.
Miranda has a long history of being an incredibly gifted teacher. She and I worked together in a range of capacities, all of which dealt with preparing delegates (aka conference attendees) to be as best prepared as they could be prior to arriving to our conferences. Whether it was working with students from South Korea or students in New Haven, Connecticut, Miranda can work with all types of people. Whether it was teaching about the Syrian Civil War or why China's dominance over water in southeast Asia poses a threat to the region, Miranda really cares about ensuring others understand complex topics as easily as possible. Miranda was always able to simplify incredibly difficult topics into smaller, bite-sized pieces students could "digest."
Not only was she incredibly knowledgeable, Miranda was also incredibly patient. Understanding complex geopolitical international issues is no easy task, but Miranda enjoyed it so much she was always, without a doubt, able to help students understand them too. She also helped delegates improve their English fluency (since many delegates speak English as a second language), helped conference chairs become better moderators, and helped everyone she interacted with become better leaders. She truly cares about helping people reach their potential. That's why I think she'd be incredibly for this role.Miranda mentored me as part of the Yale Political Union and worked with me in Yale Model Congress to teach American High School Students about the US government, history and politics. She encourages critical questions and as the depth and breath of knowledge to be able to answer anything thrown at her. Miranda effectively breaks down complex issues and concepts and explains the specific history and context around each, which is so critical to getting a deeper understanding of the topic. Miranda catapults those she talks to into a space of curiosity where they can build off initial knowledge. Through discussion, debate and discourse, Miranda effectively prepares people not only to get high marks on exams because they know the material, but also to gain a significant understand of the area of study.
As a former student of Miranda Melcher, I can only recommend her with great enthusiasm and can guarantee that she is a passionate and competent educator. My recommendation will be largely testimonial but I can assure that many others who have been taught her would whole-heartedly agree. Ms Melcher began teaching me Model United in 2011, when I was in middle school. She was just a high school student herself but was able to lead groups of 20-30 students with no adult influence and educate with professionalism and expertise- I have yet to encounter another teacher as inspiring and influential upon my life as her. She instilled a relentless work ethic in me as well as her other students, through a rigorous and systematic teaching style and setting a ideal example with her own actions. She single-handedly led one of the largest extracurricular academic activities with over 100 participants. Furthermore, she was able to portray international relations and political theory to me as a pre-teen in way that captivated me to such an extent that it has truly shaped my future. With her encouragement and the skill set that she had given me, I went on to teach and lead MUN myself and am now studying BA War Studies at King’s College London. It is no exaggeration when I accredit the majority of my academic success to the years where she taught me.
Her influence is not only academic however, indeed she built my self-confidence and public speaking in a way that I could not have with out her assistance. Her teaching style promotes an ability to think conceptually and concisely with speed and to articulate these thoughts eloquently and confidently with no hesitation. She encourages students who are initially not outspoken to become some of the most loudly opinionated individuals, while ensuring that decorum, high academic calibre and respect is retained at all times.
I have been able to witness her expand her teaching skill far above and beyond Model United Nations over the last 6 years. For example, recently she introduced a new six session curriculum that she developed on the concept of modern war to me and I was impressed by her ability to create with the target audience in mind, while ensuring that the breath was thorough and the content was riveting. While she most certainly knows what she intends to achieve with her students, she is always receptive to constructive advice on how to better ensure that this goal is met.
Her passion is something truly admirable and I can ensure that she will continue to inspire and change the lives of students that have the luck to be educated by her.I saw Miranda tutor students in Mandarin and politics. Under her guidance, tutees gained a much better grasp of their subject than they would have otherwise. Her style of teaching is successful because she places a heavy emphasis on comprehension over memorization and tailors her approach to her students' individual backgrounds and/or interests. Miranda is excellent at methodically approaching a subject, and breaking it down so that her students can really absorb the matter by highlighting the subject's real world significance to them, and in doing so, her students gain a lasting understanding of the subject matter.
