About Melissa

Specific Learning Difficulties/Dyslexia/SEN Tutor

I am a fully qualified and experienced dyslexia/specific learning difficulties tutor and assessor specialising in targeted English, visual and verbal memory and study skills support. I am a member of the Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties (PATOSS), The National Handwriting Association and the Dyslexia Guild/Real Training.

I work with children and adults and my focus is to help children and adults learn using an understanding of their individual learning profiles. I utilise student's strengths and I have a solid history of helping students and adults to achieve their goals.

I have worked as a SENCO in a primary and secondary school and more recently I have been employed as a Dyslexia Co-ordinator at City Lit. I gained a great deal from these positions but my greatest educational experiences have been from working with the children and adults themselves. I tailor everything I do to the individual and I am able to supply testimonials from parents regarding my 1:1 tuition with them.

Outstanding dyslexia tutor

Written by Rosa D
I personally recommend Mrs Mansfield who has worked as a Special Learning Difficulties tutor for our two dyslexic children, a boy and a girl, aged 13 and 8.
We gladly recommend Melisa as special learning difficulties tutor based on the invigorating experience our son has had with her and the sound progress he has attained.
Melisa tutored my son between July 2015 and February 2018 and throughout this time, Melisa has been very supportive and caring. She has approached the learning development of our son on the basis of trust and has been very professional in dwelling on his learning difficulties in a methodic and thorough manner at different levels.
Melisa’s work helped first with reinforcing the self-confidence of our son and his strengths and guiding him on how to improve in other areas with the use of a number of resources, such as reading techniques, writing strategies, spelling exercises and a number of teaching books and computer based tools.
She has always been innovative and has constantly adapted her teaching techniques to keep a steady progress whilst creating an ever interesting learning experience for my son.
The use of computerised tools allowed our son to extend his learning and be able to reinforce the concepts at home in various areas like assimilation of information, typing, reading and spelling.
Furthermore, Melisa has also provided support and advise on engaging with the school SENCO hence coordinating any possible collaboration to improve the learning experience he could have at the school.
The support given by Melisa has not just been limited to bringing him up to expected levels within the national curriculum but also to reinforce his capabilities and further develop them such that he could prepare and successfully pass the thirteen plus exams. Such is our trust in Melisa that our little daughter, who was only diagnosed with learning difficulties last year, is now also receiving tutoring from her.
We will be happy to provide any other information required regarding Melissa’s work that you need answered.
