About Melissa

Excellent English Tutor - Summer school availability

Kind, Rigorous, Experienced, Enthusiastic

I was educated at Westminster School and won an Exhibition to read English at Exeter College, Oxford. I know how to nail that essay and am experienced in exam technique. But more than anything I love my subject and know it in great detail. I will help you read the text so that you know and love what you are doing and can provide a thoughtful and insightful answer to any question.

I have worked with students of different abilities and we have done well together. One chap had been out of school for a few months but still secured an A with full marks in his course work, going on to the LSE.

I work 4 days a week at a well known GCSE and sixth form college in central London.

All my students surpassed their expectations in their results last summer and I am very proud and happy.

I can offer intensive revision or catch-up courses or a weekly lesson.

I also teach History of Art: I got an A at A level and special mention in my thesis; Easter revision meant my last student achieved an A (from predicted B) and a place at her chosen university.

I am a published novelist, so know a great deal about discipline.

A truly excellent tutor

Written by Sharon K
An update on my last review for Melissa, which was written after only a few sessions. We've now got past results day, and I'm pleased to report that my daughter has obtained a place at the university of her choice. Melissa provided excellent tuition sessions, together with support for coursework. But, most important of all, Melissa was incredibly understanding of my daughter's illness and the ups and downs that resulted because of it; and she also gave my daughter massive support on a personal level and helped her to believe in herself. I am certain that my daughter would not be going to uni this year if it were not for Melissa.

Result!

Melissa had a very clear idea of what to cover and the sessions were well structured. My son engaged well with her and his better understanding of what was required to achieve higher marks across all units of the English Language GCSE led to moving from a 'D' to an 'A'. Result!
Melissa has a very friendly, relaxed and encouraging manner.

Grade A and a very happy student.
