About Matthew
Hi there,
Thank you for your time in viewing my profile.
My name is Matthew. I am a freelance tutor with 800+ hours of experience since 2019, and a final year PhD Student at University College London working in Space Physics and Machine Learning. If you are interested in learning more about science, maths, computers/programming, or you just want some guidance with schoolwork, feel free to contact me.
At University, I volunteered at a Peer-Assisted-Learning program where I tutored younger undergraduate students on specific problems from the course and helped them with other general problems like revision tips for that specific subject.
I have been tutoring since around 16 years old during high school, from running after-school help clubs to lunch-time help sessions. I have also been teaching piano and music theory privately for 7 years and ongoing.
Parents describe me as passionate, honest and easy to communicate with.
That's all.
Hope to see you around.

Maths, Physics, Programming, and Computer Science teacher in London.
I adapt my teaching style based on the needs of the students. These may include:
- Direct, in which I deliver information in a visual format such as drawings, slides, or videos.
- Student-centred, in which I encourage the student to lead the discussion and exploration of a subject, to ask questions and make their own observations.
- Problem-Based, in which we work through scenarios or questions and I encourage students to think critically and creatively, to develop problem-solving skills.
- Cooperative Learning in which I encourage a group of students to foster teamwork.
The typical length of a lesson is 1 hour and can be extended as needed if the student prefers more intensive lessons.
My lessons are suitable for all ages who are curious about science, technology, engineering and maths. Levels include GCSEs, A levels, and undergraduate physics degrees.

Matthew has been teaching my daughter sciences and maths for some time now. He has adapted his teaching style to her needs and is able to explain things she struggled with for years in school. Quoting her:
"He is one of the very few teachers that when he explains things, they stick".
He has done wonders for her self esteem as well.Matthew tutored my daughter in Maths, Physics and Chemistry during Year 11. His calmness and flexible approach to problem-solving and using her mistakes to inform her learning helped her to calm down, take ownership of her study between sessions and develop sound strategies for exam technique. Fear of failure at the start of the year transformed into a desire to excel as she grew in confidence and saw her performance at past papers improve. Overall it was a positive and productive partnership which resulted in top grades.
We are really impressed with Matthew's teaching, courtesy and punctuality. He is busy studying for an integrated Masters at Imperial and going on to Phd. However, he is able to teach what must be the basics for him in a clear and coherent way that stays focused within the GCSE/A level parameters. He somehow manages to juggle both tutoring and studying, and his work ethic is inspiring and motivating for my 16 year-old son doing GCSEs. Matthew is patient, conscientious, easy-going but "gently firm" when my son is slapdash/disorganised! and he adapted to my son's learning style. He had missed a lot of material during upper school /not produced enough consolidating homework and we hoped to fix this - as a result he has already improved his results and predicted grades pre-GCSE and filled some knowledge gaps, surprising his teacher .. We would not hesitate to recommend Matthew to anyone, child or adult - he was the first to be listed in our immediate locale and I feel very lucky as we hit gold. Matthew has also been helping with maths, which means we have killed two birds with one stone (as they say).

Matthew is a personable and friendly tutor. He has excellent knowledge of Python, and is adept at passing it on! He is able to work with students on both general skills and fixes, and is tenacious enough to continue working with them until all the bugs are ironed out. His communication is excellent, and he is skilled at making a complicated subject seem simple.
Matthew is a patient, enthusiastic and inspiring teacher and has been amazing at helping me learn (and enjoy learning) Python code.
I have to complete a module in coding for my MSc in Psychology and was really struggling on a very intense course, having had no prior experience. Matthew has made Python accessible, interesting and fun for me. I genuinely enjoy my lessons with him and I can't recommend him highly enough.Matthew is a patient, enthusiastic and inspiring teacher and has been amazing at helping me learn (and enjoy learning) Python code.

He makes lessons fun but at the same time productive. He always tries different ways to explain how to play better and make my playing more musical.
Matthew is a great tutor as he understood what I struggled with most and made the lessons specific for me.
