About Mary
Bonjour, ¡Hola!, Nǐ hǎo!
I am a Qualified Language Teacher, who has been working in mainly inner city schools for the last 25 Years. I have a 2:1 degree in French and a DELE Intermedio in Spanish. Throughout my career I have taught French up to 'A' Level and Spanish to GCSE level. I have also taught Primary French successfully for 8 years as a Franchisee of La Jolie Ronde French for Children, where I managed two tutors of my own.
My favourite part of teaching has always been the 'lightbulb' moment when my students suddenly understand a concept or a structure that I have been trying to teach them and are then able to put it I
I love to make my lessons interactive and fun and am not afraid to use games, rhymes and even songs in my lessons if it gets results. I have coached students who had little hope of getting a GCSE in French or Spanish and managed to get them to an 'A'/A* through building up their confidence and refusing to give up on them.
Languages are in my blood as I come from a Francophone background and am fanatical about getting everyone to love languages and see the links between languages. I can understand a good amount of Portuguese and Italian, because of my knowledge of French and Spanish and always tell my students to search for the similarities in order to work things out.
