Leading Young People to Self-Expression and Confidence

I specialise in the study of English Literature and Language at GCSE, A-Level and Undergraduate levels. The opportunity to share my passion for literature is also a chance for students to achieve significant personal growth, as the young people I mentor learn clarity of writing, clarity of thought, organisation, self-discipline and confidence.

Young people tasked with the study of literature or the need to write essays in these subjects can lack confidence. My professional teaching methods have helped exam candidates, university applicants and adult businesspeople discover what they have to say, structure, present and write it.

- Currently teaching for GCSE and A-Level 2017
Professional expertise means I can help you navigate changing curriculum requirements and understand what is required to achieve success.

- Supporting reading lists and multiple set texts
When required to read long novels or old-fashioned plays, I can keep a student moving forward and enjoying their work.

- Experience as an interviewer
Everyone can benefit from practice presenting themselves. I know exactly what interviewers look for in University candidates.

- Skype Lessons available
I am based in East London and if travel time and distance make a face-to-face lesson impractical I can run regular Skype sessions.

I leave my students motivated, confident and with a deeper appreciation of the world of literature.

Unlocking a child's potential and making leraning fun

Every child is an individual and motivated in different ways. Martin taught both my sons at primary school and each need different guidance. He succeeded in helping them both to find the fun in learning which has made them into exceptional students in secondary school. He takes the time to make it work and below is an extract of an email I sent to him summarizing my thoughts on his impact on one child:

'Thanks you so much for sending him off on the right track. You directed him in the right way and now his interest in learning is making him successful in school. Thanks for the letter of encouragement and your predictions were right. Owen is unique and finding a great path at the moment. Long may it continue....Neil'

Dissertation SOS: Improving my academic English

Martin assisted me with my MBA (Master of Business Administration) dissertation submitted January 2014. As a Venezuelan studying in London, I found difficulties preparing my academic reports. Martin was very effective and assertive helping me with the proof reading, giving me lessons about writing in a proper English style, fostering my confidence in expressing my ideas, and editing my dissertation.
Martin took time to read through the huge 20 thousand word document so that we moved quickly to meet a deadline and edit the whole piece together.
Outcome:
I fulfil my expectations and academics goals. I received a distinction in my degree.

Excellent and Trustworthy

In every aspect of my working relationship with Martin I have found him to be highly skilled, flexible and a pleasure to work with. Martin quickly establishes an excellent rapport with children which builds trust and results in excellent work. I have noticed that one of Martins biggest asset's is his meticulous planning and attention to detail. Martin 'goes the extra mile', when planning pieces of work. Leaving nothing to chance. This means Martin comes across as very relaxed but professional. Martin is able to control large groups of children as well as hold fruitful 1-2-1 conversations. Martin willingly plan's and runs whole school assemblies, brining his musical ear and panache for storytelling together for unforgettable assemblies. He comes highly recommended

Martin would make a good tutor.

Martin has worked at Winsor as a Y5 class teacher since September 2012, he has a TLR for the Creative Curriculum and History, Geography and RE fall into his remit of responsibility.
He cares about the pupils in his class and builds good relationships with them.
His passion is for literacy and drama, he has produced the last two Christmas performances.
I would think that as a tutor he would be dedicated to seeing improvements in his students.
He has taught the full primary curriculum

Great learning using fun techniques

My 9 year old daughter really looks forward to her lessons. She doesn't mind getting up early to have them before school. She enjoys his fun approach to teaching, listens well and makes great progress. Once my maternity time is over im looking forward to continuing with my daughters lessons.

Martin is a lovely person, a great teacher and I would recommend him to anyone looking to support their child's learnings.

Fun and focused learning - with stellar results

Martin has tutored our 2 sons, aged 9 and 7, this year. They both thoroughly enjoyed their sessions and were very much looking forward to them. Whilst the teaching is fun, Martin managed to keep both boys focused, and really pushed them in areas where they were less comfortable.

Martin is also very good at giving constructive feedbacks to parents after each session.

I can only recommend Martin as a tutor, your children will be eager to learn and improve!
Outcome:
Both boys finished the year with stellar comments from their respective teachers.
