Experienced English, History & Art tutor for 11+ & GCSE
I am a creative and passionate tutor of English, Art and History. Having studied Fine Art at Oxford University, I have a combination of a very strong academic record and a creative streak which is immensely useful for my students in my academic tutoring. I have several years' experience with looking after young children and teenagers, and I love nurturing academic enquiry and creativity. Having experienced some of the best education in the country, and I enjoy passing on the skills I have learned over the years to younger students.
I specialise in 11+ English (Reading, Writing, Verbal and non-Verbal reasoning), GCSE, A Level and IB Art tuition, GCSE History, as well as coaching students as they build their portfolios for Art Foundation and Undergraduate courses. For my 11+ students, I love developing a rapport that makes learning really fun and leads to the achievement of their goals. Students of mine have gained entry to St Paul's Girls School, Godolphin and Queensgate, while my art students have been offered places at City & Guilds of London Art School, the Ruskin School of Art (Oxford University) and the Edinburgh College of Art.
For Art tuition, I make sure to strike the perfect balance between talking about the students ideas, bringing in relevant artists' work to the conversation where relevant, and setting specific tasks and exercises to push the student just beyond their comfort zone. I have helped my students attain Art scholarships to independent schools, to Art Foundation Years, and to BFA undergraduate courses. It is amazing how far children and young adults can progress in just a few lessons.
As well as one-to-one tuition for curriculum learning, I am also very happy to offer Oxbridge interview mentoring and portfolio tuition for anyone wishing to apply for Art Foundation and Undergraduate Art courses.
I appreciate how every pupil is different, and while many tutors have a codified teaching system for all, I teach with the principle that learning is best enabled by getting to know each individual as we progress from lesson to lesson. I am very friendly and calm, and remembering how intimidating school exams can be, I am able to make subjects fun and interesting through conversation, while also communicating the specific Assessment Objectives that different exams require.
I have a strong academic record, and in 2015 I was made an Academic Exhibitioner at Magdalen College, before achieving a high mark for Art History and Theory in my final examinations. If you would like to book a first lesson with me, just send me a message!
