About Mariachiara

Oxford DPhil student, Italian native speaker

I am a passionate DPhil student in English and Italian Comparative Literature at Oxford University. I have more than a year of private tutoring experience with students of all ages, one-to-one or in small groups, for academic purposes or leisure. I enjoy teaching as a way to make myself helpful by sharing my greatest interests. I think that learning should be a pleasure and, for this reason, tailoring my teaching methods to each student's skills and preferences is my challenge. Test me!

An excellent intern

Written by Rembrandt D
Mariachiara has worked as an intern in my department for the past 7 months. She has had to learn a new database system and a new subject (iconography) and has mastered both in record time. She is clearly intelligent, adaptable and hard-working; she is also kind, patient and precise, all of which are important qualities in a tutor.

Outcome:
Mariachiara has done a lot of work of a high standard; I am very pleased with her contribution as well as with her work ethics

Cheerful, friendly and hardworking

Written by Paul T
Mariachiara hasn't worked for me as a tutor, but I'm sure she will be a very good one: she's enthusiastic, kind, patient and very bright. She's been working as a volunteer intern in an image library I'm in charge of, uploading digital photos of works of art into an online database. She had no training in art history, but she quickly learned on the job, and we've been very happy with her work: she's precise and industrious and committed to the task. And she's also a very pleasant colleague to work with each day, always friendly, cheerful and obliging. Her native language is Italian, but after three years of studying English literature at university here, her English is completely fluent. Someone it’s a pleasure to recommend.

Excellent teacher of Italian language

Written by Athina B
Mariachiara is an excellent teacher of the Italian language. I was already at an intermediate level but Mariachiara has immediately spot my knowledge gaps and has customised the teaching material to match my needs. Within a month she managed to turn me into an eloquent speaker of Italian for a business orientated environment. I would definitely recommend her to anyone that wants to learn Italian as she is an exceptional professional, with a solid literature and teaching related background and she knows how to approach each individual and their specific needs. The lessons have been very enjoyable and interesting.

Brilliant tutor

Written by Rosanna G
I would highly recommend Mariachiara as an Italian tutor. Over the course of four lessons, Mariachiara gave my son and me (both beginners) excellent preparation in Italian for a forthcoming trip to Italy. The lessons were both useful and fun.

We will try out our Italian when we are in Italy.

Excellent and fun tutor

Written by Tom (on Behalf Of Natasha) M
Mariachiara gave my daughter around 10 private lessons in preparation for her to go to Oxford University to study Beginner's Italian (for which she had been asked to arrive with a basic knowledge of the vocab and grammar).

My daughter found the lessons extremely helpful, and arrived at university in excellent shape to start her course. Mariachiara had clearly put a lot of effort into preparing the sessions, and was not only thorough in covering all the necessary material but also found a lot of ways to make the material interesting and stimulating. The lessons were both effective and great fun.

We'd recommend Mariachiara very highly.

Interesting lessons with dedicated tutor

Written by Rachel B
I had four or five lessons with Maria and found her to be a very thoughtful tutor. I was already at intermediate level, and she was very good at spotting the areas that I needed to work on and tailoring her teaching to my needs, and at correcting and explaining my mistakes. She gave me interesting, conversation-focused lessons, where we would read or watch something and then discuss it, as well as covering grammar. She can tell that Maria puts a lot of thought into preparing her lessons, and that she is a dedicated teacher.
Subject:
Italian (Intermediate)
Outcome:
I came away confident in using the future and conditional, which I had touched on in my previous Italian learning but not really used in conversation, and overall more confident in having conversation

Excellent tutor for 17 year old

Maria is very professional and friendly. She has quickly grasped what was needed in support of my daughter's AS level and established an easy rapport using appropriate and interesting materials. She has also been flexible and helpful with occasional changes to scheduling.
We have no hesitation in recommending her for this level.
