About Maddy
Hi,
I am Maddy! I am a science enthusiast and love teaching, having completed the IB Diploma and done a year of science at university my brain is filled with Biology and Chemistry facts. The best way I learned all my facts and figures was through teaching, and I found that I really enjoyed it. In fact, I was able to assist some of my fellow students, who will vouch for me if need be.
I am a visual learner and enjoy approaching challenges through many eye-catching ways. The syllabus is incredibly important - especially for exam technique - but a bit of rounded, more in-perspective explanation, especially when it comes to complicated topics, can help create a circular understanding, a more in-depth comprehension and link to the subject as a whole.
I enjoy organising and understanding the tasks at hand before tackling them. Teaching how to unpick what the question is asking is something I have had to learn and would really love to pass on the knowledge and skills I personally have picked up when working my way through exams and course work.
I have moved countries quite a bit and have had to adapt to various teaching styles and syllabus so can help with the adaptation into a new school system here in London as well.

Experiences teaching/caring for children/animals:
April 2015 - Peer lessons in Standard Level Biology, IB diploma
Taught biology syllabus to 2 standard level students, focusing particularly on exam technique. Practicing past exam style questions and reviewing the syllabus to hone memory on specific areas. This was also paired with multisensory techniques such as videos and flash cards.
August 2014 - Camp Leader, UWC Atlantic College
Cooked, served and cleaned up from meals for a hundred fifteen to sixteen year-olds in a camp environment as well as entertaining and listening and attending to any of their worries or needs.
September 2014 to May 2015 – Atlantic Outdoor Centre
Building the confidence of children (11 year-olds) through outdoor activities. We prepared activities such as – rock climbing, canoeing, mountain boarding, archery, orienteering, and initiative games. As the groups of 10+ children were between the ages of 10 and 11 we had to make sure that their attention was kept focused on the task at hand.
June 2013 to July 2013 - Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre, South Africa
Caring for poisoned or orphaned animals. This required punctuality, responsibility and teamwork. I was fully responsible for the animals assigned to me. I was a group leader demonstrating to new volunteers what to do and safety around the animals.
