About Dr. Madara

I have 30 year of experience playing chess, I am a candidate master of Latvia, with an international (FIDE) rating of 2063, and the English Chess Federation (ECF) rating of 2115 in Classical/slow chess, which is a decent level. My recent best achievement is 1st place in London Classic Women and Girls Rapidplay 2019. I have qualified for UK Women's Blitz Championships all 4 times I participated (in 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023), and came 2nd in the Finals 2018 and 3rd in the Finals 2019. I came 3rd in ECF Women’s Norm Event 2022. I am currently still an active player representing Lewisham Chess Club in London League.

I graduated from Riga Chess School (which I attended from 1993 to 2009) and am holding a professional education degree in Chess. I was teaching chess to primary school children and tutored some adults back in Latvia for many years, and I enjoyed it very much. Since 2016 I have been tutoring many children and adults in London, UK, and online, and helped them to progress in chess, and some of them gained good achievements in chess tournaments and were qualified for the next competitions (e.g. Gigafinal, London Junior Chess Championships). I am an organiser of SE London Grand Prix London Junior Chess Championships Qualifiers in 2019, 2022 and 2023.

I can teach basic concepts, moves, strategies, and tactics for beginners and help to improve the game technique of intermediate and advanced players, suggesting the theory and winning game plans, training thinking ahead and calculation skills, and many more.

Details

I am not offering the "first lesson" for free. As my availability is quite limited with very few free slots, I am looking for serious chess students, who would like to take at least a 5 to 10-lesson course. Chess is a very complex game and you would need to invest time and effort to see an improvement and succeed.

Lessons are booked in advance via the Superprof booking system. You can request the time slot or I can add a time slot and it will require your confirmation. If you would like to have more lessons, you can buy a 5 or 10-lesson pack and the fee per h will be lower. I follow the 24-hour cancellation policy - you will still be charged for lessons that are canceled less than 24 hours before the planned time. Thank you.
