About Lydia
My practical qualifications include: DipABRSM Clarinet Performance Diploma, Grade 8 Clarinet & Classical Saxophone (ABRSM), Grade 8 Piano & Jazz Saxophone (TCL), and Grade 6 Flute & Music Theory (ABRSM). Additional certifications include: DBS Check (available on the Update Service), CPD Certified 'Level 4 in Higher Learning Teaching Assistant' (with Higher Distinction), EduCare 'NSPCC Child Protection Awareness', and 'NHS First Aid Essentials Level 2'.
In 2016, I graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama with a BMus (Hons) Undergrauduate Degree in Music - specialising in Clarinet Performance. During my studies, I was taught by: John Cooper, Timothy Lines, Lenny Sayers & James Mainwaring. I also performed in masterclasses for Michael Collins and Andrew Marriner.
Early in my Conservatoire education, I discovered a natural aptitude for teaching, and soon became passionate about enhancing transferable skills - whilst also bridging the gap between Primary & Secondary School music education. I am also a keen advocate for inclusion and accessibility across all musical platforms, with particular focus on instrumental provision for children with additional needs.
I have volunteered at: Touch Trust (session assistant / performance specialist), Kings Monkton School (assistant Year 3 teacher), Making Music Changing Lives (assistant clarinet teacher), Bryn Deri Primary School (orchestra conductor / musical director), and Music in Hospitals & Care (fundraising assistant, 'bucket-collection' coordinator & Charity Ambassador).
I have worked as a music specialist at: St. Patrick's R.C Primary School (year 3/4 teaching assistant & choir director), the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama Junior Department (auxiliary staff, admin / receptionist & orchestral support), Forte School of Music (group piano, 1-1 woodwind & singing tutor), and SuperStars Inc (KS2 music cover teacher). I have also taught peripatetic woodwind as an independent contractor, at both Sully Primary School and Willows High School (Cardiff).
I am hugely proud of my roots as a county grown, Welsh musician. I consistently support Welsh Music, both in community settings (running workshops in various schools), and most prominently through a five-year affiliation with the National Youth Wind Orchestra and National Youth Orchestras of Wales (holding the seat of 'Principal Clarinettist' for two consecutive years).

I have been having lessons with Lydia for almost a year and during that time my saxophone playing has come on immensely. Prior to this time I was self taught but realised I needed a teacher to progress.
Lydia makes the lessons fun and easy to understand which is not an easy task as I am middle aged.
If you want to play an instrument seriously or like myself just play for fun, I would highly recommend Lydia to help you on your journey.
Definitely 5 starsLydia is not only an excellent and versatile musician, she is a wonderful teacher and the loveliest person who will look after you and your learning needs. I cannot recommend Lydia enough!
Really enjoy learning to play the saxophone with excellent tuition and guidance. Making great progress with Lydia’s support.
Lydia is a great teacher. Very friendly and patient and matches your pace. She is very knowledgeable and it’s easy to fall in love with playing a musical instrument week by week!
Lydia is a fantastic tutor. She has been teaching my daughter to play for the past two years and my daughter is thriving, she is learning at such a fast pace, progressing through the grades and loving every second. My daughter throughly enjoys playing and learning with Lydia. We can’t thank and recommend Lydia enough, learning to play an instrument is a life long skill so if you’re considering getting lessons all I can say is it’s the best decision we’ve ever made and you won’t get a better tutor than Lydia.
Lydia is a wonderfully supportive vocal tutor and voice coach. I have always sung in one form or another and wanted to improve my range and voice projection and Lydia really helped me with this. In addition, she also gave me a huge boost to my confidence when she encouraged me to work toward my Grade III Voice examination which, with lots of help and support from her, I managed to pass!! I am so happy to highly recommend her to anyone wanting to improve their musical ability at any level.
I've been learning flute with Lydia for two years now and she is absolutely amazing! I think I would have quit by now if it wasn't for her. Great personality, very patient and very talented.
Lydia has only been teaching Josh piano for a couple of months but he has come on really well and always enjoys going to his lessons.
They have a great dynamic together and Lydia moves at a pace that josh can deal with while pushing him to stretch and challenge himself.
Josh says, 'Lydia is very kind and helpful'Lydia has been my own children’s piano teacher over the last 3 years, privately. She is organised and always punctual for lessons. Her tuition is characterised by a firm but very friendly manner and very encouraging in nature. She liaises well with me regarding the children’s development and she keeps a very accurate diary of lessons with my children. They enjoy their lessons with her. She is patient and supportive and engages fully with them. She is enthusiastic and vibrant and she is always keen to do the very best for my children.
