She is certainly a strong mathematician and undertook her PGCE at IOE UCL . Her interest led her to complete some Masters level research into the use of the number-line and how it can support mathematical understanding. Lucy has used this insight into the pedagogy of mathematics to develop herself and serve the children well . Then she completed her NQT year in Year 5. After that , she started teaching at Dartford Bridge Community Primary School September 2017 until July 2020. During this time, she taught a full curriculum to year 1 children and was an excellent music coordinator to the school. I had the opportunity to observe Lucy teaching on several occasions across a variety of subjects and she was able to use the Teachers Standards effectively to generate a high level of progress for all learners. She was very reflective and had excellent behaviour management skills which were the basis to children feeling comfortable to work in the Zone of Proximal Development while having a judicious level of support and challenge to propel their learning forward. Lucy’s deep affinity for mathematics has often allowed her to reflect on her use of resources in lessons to develop knowledge skills and understanding in the children and address misconceptions such as near misses in times tables .
