About Lucy
Hello! I am 21 years old and have recently completed my undergraduate degree in History at the University of Oxford. In September, I am starting a MA at UCL in European Culture and Thought which encompasses History and English Literature!
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
I attended Francis Holland School (NW1) in Regent's Park, where I received an academic scholarship both at entry to Year 7 and to 6th Form. I achieved 11 A* at in IGCSE English literature and language and Maths and GCSE Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French, Italian, Latin, History and RS. At A Level, I achieved an A* in Government and Politics (Edexel), A* in English (OCR) and A in History (OCR) A level. I also completed an EPQ with a focus on the Italian Renaissance for which I achieved an A*.
I also received a First in my Preliminary Examinations at the end of my first year at Oxford.
ATTITUDE TO TUTORING:
I have always struggled with maths and was thus tutored from an early age which has taught me that often the most important aspect of tutoring is instilling confidence! Often the knowledge and ability is there but kids just need an extra helping hand to realise it. I hope to be able to bring out this confidence whilst also trying to make education engaging and fun.
Having a 10 year old brother has taught me a great deal of patience! I also understand that having a tutor after school is often the last thing that someone would want. It is therefore vital to approach extra help in a fun and upbeat manner whilst also trying to instil a passion for whatever subject your child needs help with.
I am very interested in both History and English literature (and language) and am capable of helping all ages and abilities up to degree level. Also, having gone through the Oxbridge application process myself I am able to help with HAT practice and also interview practice, along with personal statement help. My cousin recently sought my help on her personal statement due to her school being unable to provide any constructive advice and she was offered a place at Balliol College, Oxford for Chinese commencing this September!
