About Louis

Experienced and friendly; Westminster/Cambridge-educated

Hello! I've worked for around 300 clients over six years of tuition - predominantly agency work, but I've also had a number of word-of-mouth clients to whom I've been recommended. I've helped students get into Eton, Westminster (where I attended as a Queen's Scholar), Harrow, Sevenoaks, Winchester, Wellington and many other private schools - both via Common Entrance and Scholarship exams - and I've helped children from both state and private education attain As and A*s at GCSE where previously they were predicted Bs and Cs. I've been on numerous overseas assignments - holiday work in Italy or France, winter's break in Russia etc - and I've taught afternoon classes at various preparatory schools. I have a record of client loyalty - there's one family I've been with for all six years - and I have accrued an enormous bank of teaching materials and past papers in all 11+ and 13+ (and also younger) subjects. My style is friendly and somewhat informal but I am always fiercely determined that my students exceed expectations! I also enjoy seeing them flourish as well-rounded, interesting people. My existing tuition schedule takes me all around London and I am happy to travel, but I have also logged hundreds if not thousands of hours of online tuition, and am extremely comfortable adapting to whatever format suits a family best. I also devise and run courses with GIFT, an organisation for gifted and talented children whose operations usually take place in residential study centres. I believe that while often there's nothing better than looking at past papers, creative approaches to education are often very fruitful, and I have no problem devising unusual or demanding tasks to push a child in the right direction.

I live in Charlton and can often be found birdwatching, playing sports or writing. I self-published a novel early in 2017 and am currently working on another one.

Simply the best!

Written by Kashmir G
Louis helped our older son enter Westminster; and now helping our younger son with his 13+. Louis is simply the best. The kids really relate to his manner and style of teaching; and look up to him.
They really enjoyed their lessons as he makes it fun to learn. He is also extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

Absolutely spectacular tutor with us for 8 years

Written by Olga J
Louis has been tutoring both my children in all subjects for exams from 11+ through to GCSE - including 13+ and common entrance. My son managed to get into 9 wonderful schools, and my daughter also achieved all her best choices.
Louis is wonderfully versatile, reliable and engaging. My son had health difficulties during his GCSEs, but with Louis' help and support, these difficulties did not hinder him at all and he excelled in his exams. He is now continuing with his A-levels, achieving top grades in the school already thanks to Louis' tutoring.
Louis is always happy to help, even when I am unable to give him advance notice - he couldn't be more accommodating. I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to have found Louis all those years ago, he has been so valuable to our family.

Tutor for entrance exams

Written by Deborah H
Louis is approachable, pleasant, organised and flexible. Most importantly he has a great deal of experience in getting children through entrance exams in a no stress way. He knows exactly what is required and how to get there. Our daughter had a very short time (only 3 months) to prepare for exams in another language to the one she was schooled in (we live in Brussels) and Louis found time for lessons as needed to get her through the syllabus. We are now using him for our second daughter and have recommended him to a friend.

Sevenoaks School Admissions
Outcome:
Our daughter was offered a place as part of the first tranche of offers - other students are ranked and offered places as they become available (four applicants competing for each place)

English 11+ tutor

Written by Sarah R
Louis quite often sits back and expects his pupil to do the work without much or indeed any tutoring. I’ve noticed this as I have approached the room where he has tutored my daughter and quite often he has sat there with a bored look on his face and playing with some writing device. He is always late. Today he was half an hour late and to add insult to injury, he asked if he could cut his session five minutes short. I don’t feel as though he has a love of teaching and I would not recommend him.

10+ preparation

Written by Mel L
Louis had been working with our daughter in preparation for her 10+ entry exam. His approach has really suited her and within a few months she’s feeling far more relaxed and confident across all subjects. Louis has consistently given us feedback on her progress and we’ve seen a positive difference in her approach to and achievements in, the homework that he sets each week.

Excellent tutor for entrance to top schools

Written by Dee M
Louis has been working with my two sons for the last 3 years, initially to help my older son with 13+ pre-test and entrance exams for Westminster, St Pauls & Eton, and subsequently to prepare him for scholarship exams.

As an ex-Westminster Queen's Scholar himself, Louis knows what the top schools are looking for, and he has in-depth knowledge across all subjects.

Therefore he was able to guide my son in a number of aspects - in problem solving approaches for Maths and Science, in structuring essays in English and humanities, and in improving his fundamentals in French and Latin.
This resulted in my son securing offers from Westminster, St Paul's and Eton.

Recently Louis has also been helping my younger son with his school entrance exams, also with great results.

Louis is passionate about his work and always makes the lessons interesting and varied. He is an intuitive tutor who knows how to get the best out of each child. He has a good sense of humour and our boys see him more as a friend than a tutor.

Over and above his professional attributes, Louis is also organised and punctual, he's genial and a good conversationalist!

If you are looking for a tutor to help your child with entrance process to the top schools, I would wholeheartedly recommend Louis.

Exceptionally Passionate Tutor

Written by George F
Louis is currently tutoring our son for the 11+ exams. He is an exceptional tutor with a very strong command of the English Language. He is a great communicator and very engaging and our son looks up to him coming every week. Louis just knows how to work it to bring the best out of our son and constantly challenges him to go above and beyond. When you find a tutor like this, you sure don’t want to let him go. We see Louis as part of our family now.
