About Lila
I have been working as a tutor and school teacher for eight years. I have a 1st class honours degree and experience in teaching a wide range of academic and creative subjects. Over the last two years I have been working in a SEND school, and have specialised in trauma-informed education, working with children and young people with a range of physical and mental health needs. I believe in not only helping my pupils to achieve their highest potential in exams, but I also aim to foster a life-long love of the subjects I teach.
Subjects I Teach:
* Primary Level (all subjects)
* School Entrance Exams
* GCSE English, Arts, Music, Media and Humanities
* A-Level and Higher Level Arts
* University Applications

My Experience:
I began tutoring for entrance exams (4+ and 11+) and over the last eight years have gone on to acquire experience in teaching a wide range of subjects, up to GCSE and beyond, including: English (Language and Literature), Maths, Art, Music, Film Studies, Geography and Philosophy & Ethics. My pupils have consistently exceeded their expectations; I have seen pupils achieve wonderful exam results in their GCSEs and attain positions at some of the UK’s top schools and colleges. I believe this is down to my pupil-centred teaching approach, in which fostering a positive relationship with my student is key to helping them unlock their academic potential.
Over the last two years I have been working as both a classroom teacher and a home tutor within a SEND school. During this time I have worked with children and young people with a wide range of physical and mental health needs, including: anxiety and depression, autism, ADHD, CFS, long covid, trauma and psychosis. This work has been hugely inspiring, and has taught me a lot about how a positive educational experience can transform a young person’s life in more ways than simply passing exams.
I also have experience in both teaching resource creation, working for a company helping to build content for English textbooks. I have worked with a Japanese University as an examiner for foreign English exams. Both of these experiences have given me behind-the-scenes insights into how the world of exams work, which has proved very useful in helping my own students to prepare for their exams.

I take a creative and compassionate approach to teaching, and am sensitive to the fact that the classroom environment can be distracting and difficult to learn in. I understand the importance of passion and curiosity when it comes to learning, and I aim to make lessons memorable and fun. This way, I encourage my pupils to fully engage with the subject, and develop a deep and genuine interest, which will take them beyond their exams and into their life beyond school.
I tailor my teaching style to suit each pupil individually. I modify my lesson plans in accordance with any relevant exam boards, and am rigorous in delivering all aspects of the subject (including exam technique and preparation for exam-focused tuition). I plan ahead to reinforce any lessons at school, so my pupils can feel more confident in the classroom.
I am also very conscious that patience is one of the fundamental qualities for teaching. Many students have reported to me that they struggle with a certain subject because they have been made to feel ashamed or embarrassed for not understanding something straight away. I always say that the human brain can’t absorb new information properly unless it is in a relaxed state, so I ensure that my students are respected, and that their questions are welcomed and celebrated.
I usually consider the first lesson with a new pupil as both a chance for us to get to know each other, and a way of assessing where the pupil is at with the subject at hand. Following that, I construct lesson plans to work methodically through any areas that they struggle with. This is through setting tasks, creative activities, creating worksheets, and engaging in dialogue - asking specific questions to the pupil which might help them to join dots and reach conclusions on their own. I set creative challenges which help my pupils to better express and articulate themselves. When it comes to exam-focused tuition, I am rigorous with covering curriculum, ensuring that pupils have a clear understanding of all aspects of the exam. I offer to email my session notes to the parent/guardian at the end of each lesson, detailing what has been achieved.

During the pandemic, I wanted my 9-year-old to have an online tutor to help engage him - as he was being turned off by the online material his school was providing. Lila was a much-needed breath of fresh air and my son really brightened. Her topics were fun and interesting but full of learning. I highly recommend her!
Lila is a wonderful tutor. We hired her to help my 10 year old daughter with her English lessons, as she is one of the youngest in her class and was struggling to keep up with the other children.
Lila's lessons totally transformed her confidence. She is now keeping up with her class (and has even won some classroom awards for her poems!)
Within the first lesson Lila helped my daughter to write her own story, and now my daughter is enjoying reading much more advanced books, and writing stories and poetry all the time!I have known Lila for three years, since she started as an undergraduate student at Goldsmiths where I am a lecturer in the music department. Lila was an outstanding student. Hardworking and extremely talented, Lila always achieved marks that were among the highest in her year group. She also worked hard beyond the classroom, as evidenced by her work for me as a tutor to visiting school children. Lila planned and delivered some very successful workshops in our Electronic Music Studios to school groups of a range of ages.
My daughter was one of Lila's art students at school and she had an absolutely wonderful learning experience. The way Lila teaches is exciting, creative and motivating and her inspiring personality made my daughter's interest in the subject grow greatly. I can only recommend Lila T. and wish her all the very best for her future endeavours.
