Master of Physics student, exp. teaching to degree level

My names Liam Ashby, a 23 year old Physics student starting my Masters degree at the University of Kent, Canterbury. I hope to go on to study for a PhD in Astrophysics, becoming a junior lecturer, and hopefully advancing to a senior lecturer/professorship position.
I have always had a passion for learning and sharing knowledge, spending more time assigned as the teachers assistant than as a student during my time at primary school. During my time at Secondary school I often volunteered for an after Wednesday school club for struggling students, helping them through course material, particularly in the sciences and Mathematics. This passion continued through to my gap year, where I spent much of my time as an au-pair and tutor to two 11 and 14 year old brothers, tutoring them in English, Mathematics and Science.
For this past academic year, I undertook a role as lead peer mentor, leading a small team of third year students. We would hold weekly two hour sessions open to all first year Physics students, guiding them through particularly difficult course material. I became so engrossed in these sessions i would often find myself staying for 3 or more hours, helping to engage the students who were struggling most and ensuring a thorough understanding of the course material. This role re-affirmed my assurance that I should follow a career within teaching, where my enthusiasm and passion for teaching will help me to excel, providing a fantastic learning experience for my students. This innate passion will ensure the highest levels of teaching by myself to any prospective students, and I am confident my tutoring sessions will be both educational and enjoyable, with excellent results being seen within a few weeks.

A persistent and patient tutor

When working with Liam in the peer mentoring scheme for university students, I have found him to be enthusiastic and encouraging in his teaching methods.

He will always want to make sure that you thoroughly understand the material and is willing to go over it as many times as you wish; and can explain things differently and comprehensively until he is satisfied that you understand it fully.

Liam is determined to make sure that the information you understand is clear to you, and has exceptional patience in willing to explain himself several times should you ask.

Another aspect to Liam's teaching is that he is conscientious in wanting to know how you are doing academically, often asking how well all of the modules/subjects are going and what results you have been getting.

I expect Liam to have the same attitude and commitment towards all other students who choose to secure his services.
