About Leif

I’m a supportive, focused, qualified and very successful teacher at GCSE and A-level/IB; and an examiner for AQA/OCR/IB/Pre-U exam boards in history, politics and geography. For the IB, I am an examiner team leader for history exams in French and German. I am also very experienced and successful in teaching sociology, RS/ethics, philosophy, French and German.

Exam success matters - but I love learning, and have taught most social science and humanities subjects at school and university, so the fascination and curiosity these subjects inspire in me, is an inspiration I want to bring to you, too.

I have also taught history, politics, geography, architecture, town-planning, international relations and sociology at undergrad, master’s and PhD level, during a 20-year career at Cambridge and Manchester universities, and am very skilled at developing students’ confidence and abilities at coursework essays, exams and dissertations.

I’m also a former Oxbridge admissions tutor with a clear focus on enabling people to reach their goals, and currently (2022-23) support applications to both Oxford and Cambridge in history, PPE, HSPS, land economy, geography and architecture.

Because of my unique perspective from both sides of the admissions system, I can guide you through every step of the admissions process, in all arts, humanities, social sciences and law, from developing interesting reading in L6/Y12, through the personal statement, admissions tests/TSA and interview.

I am highly skilled at motivating and engaging students, with clearly-structured (not vague!) tasks. I particularly enjoy working with students with ASD, ADHD and dyslexia, building confidence towards success.

I offer clear, actionable guidance to students who want to change their outcomes or improve their chances, from 13+ and 16+, through (iGCSE), A-level and IB, to undergrad and postgrad degrees.

I am a qualified teacher and examiner at GCSE, A-level and International Baccalaureate, and I was a senior lecturer ('professor' in the US system) for 20 years at the Universities of Cambridge and Manchester - where I was also admissions officer for history, politics, sociology, economics, and modern languages.

I give clear, direct lessons with strategies for:
- filtering 'need to know' from 'nice to know'
- how to remember what you need to know
- essay writing, as well as short questions (4-6-8 markers)
- UCAS applications, including personal statements and guided reading.
- University admissions tests, including LNAT, TSA, BMAT, and HAT.
- Mock Oxbridge interviews.
- Degree-level work - at Bachelor's, Masters, MBA and PhD level.

I have extensive experience supporting people with extra needs, such as ADHD, autism spectrum conditions, and slow cognitive tempo.
