About Lee

I worked as an IELTS examiner for more than 3 years and now use the knowledge, skills and experience from that position to help students to pass the test quickly and with high scores. I've been offering 1-1 coaching for a considerable period of time and know exactly what the examiners want to see in good answers.

Many of my former students had taken the test multiple times or had a number of teachers, all of whom failed to help them, prior to approaching me. Rather than just being a general English teacher, I was able to demonstrate to all of those students that I am an IELTS specialist with in-depth knowledge of the tests. I have helped dozens and dozens of people to succeed, many with scores higher than they actually needed. If I can help them then I am sure I can help you too!

My name is Lee and I am a friendly and qualified teacher of English and a former IELTS examiner. Let me help you to achieve a score of Band 7 or more on your IELTS exam with a tailored course for your specific needs. I can offer tuition and exam preparation support and share with you my techniques to help you to pass the tests.

As well as making my teaching enjoyable, I am able to use my insights from working as an IELTS examiner to make sure you meet the precise IELTS marking criteria in order to get the best Band score possible. I have extensive knowledge of the tests and know what examiners look for in a good answer. Let me use this experience to help you to pass your IELTS exam.

We will start with an assessment of your current level of English and your particular needs. Then, I can go on to plan a course which will strengthen your skills and address your areas of weakness.

I am very experienced in assisting students who need to obtain IELTS very quickly owing to visa, emigration or higher education course requirements. I can provide intensive courses which fit around existing test date bookings.

***DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE FOR BLOCK BOOKINGS*** - please ask for details.

Courses can be tailored around the following skill areas:

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

I speak English fluently as it is my native language. I am also learning Spanish to I can completely empathise with learners regarding the challenges learning and new language can bring.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

I think Richard Pryson would be someone important to mention as he was the first English language publisher in the country. The uniform language which he helped to standardise became accepted throughout England and led to the creation of many of the textbooks we use today.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

There's nothing specific to be honest but I do enjoy teaching students about idiomatic language as the expressions on their faces can sometimes be interesting when you explain the meaning of what certain idioms actually mean.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

English is my native language so, of course, it is important to me. I also appreciate how lucky I am that I can converse fluently in English as I know it is a skill many people wish to master.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

I find that many students have difficulty understanding and applying rules for using articles ("a", "an" or "the") in English as they don't exist in their native language. My advice is to observe how these words are used in everyday life by reading newspapers and listening to the news on television and then try to work out when and why articles are being used.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

One time I was teaching some spelling skills to a younger student and she asked me how to spell "toad" as we had just read a story which involved a toad. So, I spelt it out for her "T-O-A-D" and then asked if she could use that word in a sentence for me. She happily wrote the sentence and read it out as follows: "Last week, I toad my mum that I want a new bike for Christmas". I couldn't help but chuckle to myself afterwards.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

I travel a lot to Spain or Spanish speaking countries so I can completely understand how students feel when learning a new language. It's also good from a personal perspective as it makes you think more about how different languages are formed and used.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

I'm a Superprof in IELTS as I have helped hundreds of students to pass the test with their desired scores by using the knowledge, skills and experience gained from being a former IELTS examiner.
