English Graduate and qualified TESOL (EFL) Teacher

I studied English Literature at King’s College London and love to see children and adults grow in their own appreciation of English language, reading, and writing. I studied an eclectic mix of poetry, drama, novels, and media among many other subjects over the course of my three-year degree. While at university I was also heavily involved in the Creative Writing society and would love to help children and young adults develop their creative writing. I would be happy to teach English from any age up to undergraduate level.

I have a Trinity College London CertTESOL from St George International, making me well qualified to teach English to speakers of other languages. I am currently teaching several speaking classes a week at a Language school in Central London with regular observations and access to CPD workshops. If you would like to improve your English, I would love to meet you and plan lessons according to your interests and individual needs.

After graduating in 2016, I worked for a year teaching and offering pastoral support to university students through my local church. This, and my experience of studying at a Russell Group university, makes me highly aware of the challenges faced by students both in and outside their studies. I love to help students through these challenges and make education enjoyable.

Please message me about your own or your child’s needs and I would be delighted to help you.

Compassionate, Detailed, Outstanding English Language Teacher

Laura Elworthy is an exceedingly dedicated English language tutor, who is committed to detail and creative in learning style approaches: proving a quality of teaching which goes above and beyond.

She has received excellent English Language and Literature training, through her degree at King’s College London. During the three years, she was exposed to Professors who taught her how to be meticulous in reading, writing, forming arguments and engaging in group discussions. Such experience gives her first-hand experience and compassion for the students she teaches, as she understands the time and labour it takes to work through the exercises she has prepared. It also means that her feedback and attention to detail is excellent, which inevitably enhances the progression of those she tutors.

For the last two years, Laura has been part of a voluntary charity which provides free English language classes in central London. Through that work, she has communicated with students from all over the world, with a diverse range of English language levels. She has helped to organise resources, as well as been available for questions through those sessions. Through this work, she has proved how invested she is in developing the linguistic skillset of those seeking to learn English.

It was an obvious step to all that Laura undertook an official training course at the Trinity College London, CertTESOL. She worked well under pressure, always taking on board feedback from her teachers and peers. Her personal commitment to the programme was evident in her hours spent refreshing her grammatical knowledge, or reading over and thinking about how to apply her feedback both before and after the official teaching hours.

The ethos of her teaching environment was based on the belief that students learn most through communicating in their target language as much as possible. Such a technique involves providing multiple creative opportunities within the classroom, as well as listening deeply.

Her module results were exceedingly high, with all results above 70%:

75% Teaching Practice
93% Unknown Language (Cantonese)
83% Learner Profile
75% Language Awareness
Pass Materials Assignment

These outstanding results of this course are evidence of the hard work that Laura gives to everything that she does. She has received a training which is first class, ensuring that she will provide a level of teaching which is outstanding. She is the type of character who will listen to the individual needs of students, and adjust her teaching style and technique accordingly, to ensure transformative results.

Looking for an English tutor?

I worked with Laura for a year in a context where she had the opportunity to teach students in small groups, from the front and individually. She has great teaching skills and is patient and kind. I would highly recommend her to anyone. She has great knowledge of English literature and also spent the summer learning to teach English as a second language.
