Enthusiastic and Inspiring Teacher

Born in Romania, I began playing percussion at the age of 9, furthering my studies at the West University Faculty of Music in Romania and completing my Bachelor of Music in July 2012. Two years later, I graduated from Royal College of Music in London obtaining a recognized qualification such as the Master of Performance with Distinction, under the tutelage of Daniella Ganeva and She-e Wu. Now I enjoy freelancing as an Early Years Musicianship Teacher and also working with the Tri-borough Music Hub as a Percussion Tutor.

During my two years of Master at college, I have done lots of music workshops involving a large range of children from 2 years old to adult amateur orchestras, through college's learning and participatory centre called Sparks. My role was to help the workshop leaders in delivering the music sessions with my percussion instruments. This often means that I had to play together with the leaders; demonstrate certain passages or perform whole pieces for children's inspiration; engage myself in creatively developing new music with the children; teaching them what and how to play with a range of teaching skills; distribute music parts and instruments depending on children's musical experience, knowledge and technique; co-ordinate ideas on the spot; lead groups and individuals; ensure they are paying attention, playing well and enjoying themselves.

This has been an extraordinary experience for me as it helped me grow as a person and a musician and to have an understanding of what it means to work with children both individually and in groups by emphasizing the importance of team work, as an ensemble or as the percussion section within an orchestra.

In terms of awards and competitions, I have won several music awards including The Excellence Award (2008) given by the Romanian Government, three Pro Juventute Awards (2005, 2006, 2008) from the Timis County Council and won the First Prize twice at the International Percussion Competition (2010, 2011) in Timisoara, Romania.

I have also performed and toured Europe with many orchestras and ensembles including J. Futura International Orchestra (Italy) and London Simfonietta (UK) and performed concerts as a Marimba Soloist with Croydon Symphony Orchestra (UK), Guildford Symphony Orchestra (UK), Sevenoaks Symphony Orchestra (UK) and Banatul State Philharmonic Orchestra (Romania).

In terms of personal skills, I am a reliable person with a positive 'can do' attitude and very good organization and time management skills. I am hard-working and self-motivated, with abilities to change my approach in order to fit everyone's needs and possibilities. I enjoy meeting new people, teaching music and maintaining good relationships and can work flexibly with initiative, devotion and a lot of passion.
