About Léa
Originally from Bordeaux, France, I have taught French at Cambridge University for two years, at the Modern and Medieval Languages Faculty as well as at Emmanuel College and Corpus Christi College, teaching both lectures (with up to 16 students at a time) and supervisions (between 1 and 3 students at a time). I loved lectures, but it is the proximity with the students during tutoring and supervisions that I prefer: I can really see their progress and engage with them. To me, dialogue and building a relationship with students are the best way to teach a language. I love alternating between different media and building on the students' needs and interests rather than merely giving a lecture.
I have graduated in 2017 from a double masters in English, at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon - which I have passed while tutoring both English to French people and French to people from various backgrounds. I have also passed the prestigious Agrégation examination in 2016.
My experience from my undergraduate degree (Preparatory Classes for 'Grandes Ecoles' - CPGE) has taught me rigour and hard-work whilst nourishing my love for French and English, for the languages themselves but also for the texts, and for literary commentaries.
While at Cambridge, I have also been involved with the drama society, acting in various plays: theatre is my passion, and I like using it, alongside pure academic work, to work on my students' confidence (and fun) in their oral practice of a language.
University :
- Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon - Masters [First class honours / High distinction ]
- Université Paris Sorbonne - Undergraduate degree in English and French Literature [First]
Prizes and Scholarships :
I am 'normalienne' which means that I have passed the competitive examination which gives a few students the chance to enter the prestigious Ecole Normale Supérieure (in which I have been studying since 2013).
Other Qualifications :
French Baccalauréat (A*)
I have passed the agrégation examination in France.
I am fluent in German and Spanish.

Originally from Bordeaux, France, I have taught French and English to a variety of students, of different ages and backgrounds, from primary school children to a 65-year old doctor, as well as Modern and Medieval Languages students at Cambridge University.
I also have the status of an ‘agrégée’ English teacher in France and an English Masters form the Ecole Normale Supérieure, so I am used to teaching both languages and to understanding the challenges of language teaching and language learning.
Having taught supervisions at Cambridge and tutored for several years, I am very familiar with the one-on-one format, which I love and have always preferred. It allows one to develop a genuine relationship with the students, and build on their strengths by starting from them.
It is a priority for me to adapt my lessons and their pace to suit my student’s needs. I am always ready to change my lesson plans if ever a student is struggling or if something doesn’t quite work. I always make sure that they can regain their confidence in their language practice and find the fun in it again, by bringing enthusiasm and energy to the lessons.
I am an actor, as well as a language and accent coach for actors, and I also work in casting.
Generous and open, I use my experience as an actor and a teacher to fight a language learner’s worst enemy: fear – the fear of speaking a language, which stems from a fear of making mistakes. My goal is to create a safe space for my students to not feel self-conscious; I want to make sure that they are then able to serenely practise the language outside our classes.

Perfect! Brilliant instructor
I’ve been studying French with Léa for close to a year. Previously, I was never able to make significant progress. However, under Léa’s meticulous instruction, I’ve improved significantly. Léa is a thorough and thoughtful teacher. She has tailored the classes to meet my needs. She keeps track of my errors and later patiently reviews them. Unlike other teachers, she has a deep knowledge of French and French grammar and uses creative ways to pass it on. She’s an educated, cultured and lovely person with a true passion for the language. I highly recommend her.

I am delighted to write a reference for Léa in my capacity as Head of Language in the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages (French section), University of Cambridge. I have known Léa for more than 3 years, and she has been a tremendous colleague, always extremely reliable, with an impeccable track record with our Faculty, which has been ranked among the top 3 in the world for the past 10 years and is the leading one in the UK. She is endowed with a delightful personality, unflinchingly supportive to students and colleagues alike. She received very positive feedback from all of her students; they simply adored her classes. She will be a brilliant and highly dependable Tutor, as she was a tremendous asset for our Faculty, and one we are sorely missing now. Léa is a remarkable person as well as being a star teacher and a top academic, and I am certain that she will be the Tutor everyone wishes to have, that every parent would love to have for their children. She can address all levels, is extremely aware of cultural specificities, and will boost results of all pupils, whatever their objectives.
Léa was an amazing translation teacher for the French Part IB translation course at Cambridge University. She offered comprehensive and constructive advice, and really ensured everyone in our class achieved their potential. She is professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable, and it was great to be one of her students.
