About Kieran

Enthusiastic, friendly tutor, English A-Level/GCSE, 11+, 9+

I am a tutor with two and a half years' experience and cater for pupils across a number of ages and abilities. I have worked for several London agencies including Dulwich Tutors and Holland Park Tuition and through the FirstTutors website, as well as many word-of-mouth contacts.

I specialise in English Literature, and in 2017 helped a C-predicted GCSE student achieve an A, and a student predicted a D at AS-Level achieve an A at A-Level and gain entry to her first choice University (Southampton).

I also have nearly two years' experience of tutoring 11+, 9+, and even 7+ English, Maths, and Reasoning with particular focus on entrance exams for prestigious schools in south London such as Dulwich College. I have very recent proven success in this field and have tutored pupils who have been accepted at St Dunstans, Eltham College, Colfe's, and who have interviewed for Winchester and Eton.

Additionally, I am adept at providing advice and structural assistance for University personal statements for any subject.

I like to be well prepared but most importantly flexible and receptive to the needs of a particular student. I am happy to adapt to whatever area(s) you feel needs most attention and in conjunction with you, I will come up with some aims and a plan of how best to achieve them.

Before becoming a regular tutor, I gained my first experience of tutoring in 2011/2012 teaching two A-Level English Literature students, both of whom were predicted C’s and achieved A’s.

I used to run weekly drama workshops at Wellington College in Berkshire and Pipers Corner School in High Wycombe, helping students to devise and develop original comedy material for performance, and so I am used to encouraging creative writing, critical analysis and editing, and performance skills.

I have experience of teaching English as a foreign language during time spent in a German secondary school teaching pupils of all ages and abilities, with particular focus on preparing students for Cambridge Advanced English exams.

Keiran is a highly skilled tutor who has an incredible teaching style. He is very patient and really Tailors his style and method to suit the child. My son quickly built a bond with him and enjoyed his learning time with Keiran. Keiran will always challenge my sons thought process to ensure he is reaching his full potential. He is extremely encouraging and always sets homework to solidify understanding on the topic of discussion . Keirans style of teaching organised and methodical and will always encourage participation from my son. My son has come a long way and is now getting commendation in school because of his outstanding contribution to class discussion in addition to amazing grades which is attributed to the excellent level of teaching Keiran provides. Keiran is truly good at what he does which is evident in my sons brilliant grades. "One extremely happy mother and son!"

Kieran has been tutoring my daughter for a few months now getting her up to speed for her English Literature A level. He has been great and engaged Olivia straightaway. She has made good progress already and enjoys Kieran's teaching style. He manages to make sessions enjoyable and humorous - even when studying Bram Stoker's Dracula!

Kieran tutored my daughter in English Language and Literature to GCSE level and did a superb job. He is very friendly, fun and yet highly organised and competent. He built a very positive relationship with my daughter, so she enjoyed being with him. Highly recommended!
My daughter got 'A's in each despite being dyslexic and an August birth.

Top tutor

Written by Sarah D
Kieran tutors two of our sons (both <10 years) and I'm constantly impressed by his ability to engage the boys with methods of study that appeal to two very different characters. The boys' moods can be unpredictable but they always respond very well to Kieran; they are frequently laughing, reading aloud in made up voices and concocting silly stories, whilst also working on more serious comprehensions. I'm certain that Kieran brings a humour to the sessions that focuses their minds and maximises what they take from their sessions. With our elder son, we are engaging in more specific pre 11+ preparation and I am utterly confident that Kieran will be invaluable. Kieran is an all round nice guy and we feel very lucky to have found him. So much so I was a little hesitant about writing him such a glowing reference. I wouldn't hesitate to contact him if you're considering a tutor!
I'm hoping to scale up our hours with him.

Excellent and humorous tutor - cannot recommend enough

Written by Tara V
I cannot recommend Kieran enough! A brilliant tutor for my 10 year old in his preparations for the 11+ we've been working with him twice a week since last July. In that time I've gotten to know him as a charming, bright, and reliable tutor whom my children adore - so much so that my 6 year old demanded to be tutored with him as well!

He strikes the right balance of light-hearted banter and hard work. He seems to instinctively understand just how hard to push so that my son enjoyed his lessons without getting overwhelmed or stressed. That said he took my son from average results on his mock exam to excellent results on the 11+ in 6 months time.

However as every parent knows the proof is in the results: Our son passed every exam and got into EVERY SCHOOL HE APPLIED TO for which I cannot thank Kieran enough. Any student would be lucky to be in the care of this excellent tutor.
11 Plus
Got into every school he applied. Will be attending Eltham College in the autumn.
