About Kevin

As well as teaching in person I have taught many students online both during and for many years prior to the pandemic. I have a popular YouTube channel about Mathematics with almost 25,000 subscribers and over 3 million views as well as a successful online course about maths challenges. Either in person or online, I always have several ideas in mind about how a lesson might develop and a range of my own materials which means that sequences of lessons can follow a good structure whilst each individual lesson is flexible and adapted to the student's needs and interests.

I am able to provide tuition to all ages and abilities, though I am particularly suited to getting the most out of relatively able students. For example in preparing students preparing for 11+/13+/16+ entrance and scholarship examinations, or who want to push themselves to the A* boundary and beyond, or supporting students who are preparing for university entrance examinations in Mathematics or related subjects. Recent students have been successful in applications to Westminster School, St Paul's Boys and Girls and Radley College and other leading schools as well as securing STEP offers for university maths courses. I can also offer tuition for many undergraduate Maths or Statistics modules, either from Maths degrees or that are required for other subjects e.g. Economics/Management/Business/Pyschology/Sports Science etc.

My approach is problem based and diagnostic. This means that the student is generally actively engaged in solving problems for almost all of the lesson whilst I am responding to their answers by asking questions which reveal any underlying misconceptions. I work on the basis that students difficulties in mathematics usually arise from an insufficiently rich understanding of 'easy' topics. By investing time to revisit some of these easier areas and studying them in a more thorough and enriching way, students can subsequently make rapid progress whilst gaining an appreciation and enjoyment of their studies.

I teach exclusively online alongside creating online courses at Mathsaurus. Previously I taught Mathematics at Westminster School and Dulwich College (where one of my responsibilities was setting the 11+ entrance paper) and at Birkbeck College in the University of London. I have a PhD in Mathematics (Bath) and three 1st class Masters degrees in Mathematics, Statistics and related subjects, from Magdalen College, Oxford, Birkbeck (1st place overall performance) and the University of Bath as well as a degree in Law.

I am friendly and reliable and very much enjoy one on one tutoring and the opportunities it gives to enable individual students to make rapid progress. As well as teaching in person I have taught many students online both during and for many years prior to the pandemic.
