About Kerry

Qualified English Teacher (11+, GCSE, A-Level & EFL)

I am able to tutor in person or online. I am a warm and engaging tutor, and love to see my pupils make progress and discover a passion for learning.

I am fully DBS checked, am experienced in tutoring in all aspects of the 11+, 13+, GCSE/iGCSE and A-Level and am a qualified Secondary English and English as a Foreign Language teacher. I am very experienced tutoring face to face and online. In addition, I have taught English to pupils of various ages and abilities at two outstanding academies, taught in language schools, mentored young people at a creative writing centre and facilitated workshops at a theatre youth group. I am also experienced in supporting teenagers with a variety of speech and language needs.

My first degree was in English and German Literature at the University of Warwick, where I achieved first class honours on the Warwick Writing Programme. I have an RSA Cambridge English Language Teaching Award from International House Barcelona. I was also awarded a scholarship from the Arts and Humanities Research Board Award to study an MSc in Electronic Publishing at City University, which has since led to lots of exciting projects in Digital Education.

In my free time, I love to explore world cinema, dance and art, have volunteered on several theatre productions (both adult and youth) and written numerous film and theatre scripts.

Kerry has been tutoring my daughter in English Language and Literature. My daughter has a weekly lesson of one hour.
Her biggest asset as far as I am concerned is her enthusiam and creativeness which has captured my daughter's imagination for the subject. Kerry has improved my daughter's confidence and enjoyment in the subject.
Kerry has been teaching my daughter for one year and she is helping her with creative writing for the Duke of Edinburgh bronze medal. We hope to continue for this year leading up to the GCSEs.

Could you please be my referee?

Kerry is tutoring my daughter at the moment and preparing her very well for upcoming year 7 entrance assessments. Kerry is a thoughtful and caring tutor and always looks at the best and fun ways to learn. Kerry's thirst for her pupils to learn is infectious, my daughter thoroughly enjoys her tutoring with Kerry. I would not hesitate to recommend her to children of all ages.

Kerry gave me a ton of support throughout year 10, helping with both language and literature aspects of the syllabus, ultimately helping me secure a predicted A* for GCSE. She was always enthusiastic and encouraging, especially when I made mistakes and helped me learn to improve my own work with techniques and skills I would not have otherwise known.
The outcome gave me incredible confidence as by the end of the year I had secured a predicted A* in both language and literature for my GCSE.
