About Katherine Rose
At A level, I achieved predicted A*A*AA grades, with an offer to study Oxford University's most competitive course, Economics and Management. At GCSE I achieved 12 grade 9s/A* equivalents and for the last 7 years I have studied at the highly competitive Henrietta Barnett selective school. During my time at school I won silver and gold awards at national maths and biology challenges.
I believe that I have achieved this academic success through consistent hard work and determination to know my subjects and their curricula inside-out, and now I aim to use my deepened understanding of them to help students of any confidence level. I have always needed to work hard and apply myself to achieve my best, so I can empathise with those who may need more help, and I am confident that I can aid them to also work to the best of their ability.
It is my aim to tutor students so that they develop the confidence and revision skills to answer questions and study effectively without support in the future. To do this, my tutoring will centre around a core of practice questions from textbooks and past papers, with extra work set between sessions if necessary. I believe that practice is essential to achieve well at GCSE and A-level, as it allows students not only to acquire a deeper understanding of sub-topics but also to gain an idea of how best to fit the requirements of their specific exam board's criteria.
However, before practice we will always start by ascertaining the level of confidence and understanding that the student has with the basics of the essential theory, only working towards more complex concepts when they are ready. At this stage I may also help with note-taking and study skills so that the student can advance their learning in their own time. For some subjects, such as biology or chemistry, note-taking and memorisation is essential, but for mathematics and non-verbal reasoning nothing is better than practice.
Whilst I have done well academically in STEM subjects, I am also creative and passionate, having won my school's Design & Technology award and written a blog that helped me get my Oxford offer. I believe that I can use this creativity to tailor my teaching style to each student so that they can receive the help that they need.
To get my Oxford offer I also scored highly in the TSA test, and I can help students that may need it (the TSA is required for Experimental Psychology, Geography, Human Sciences, Philosophy and Linguistics, Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), Psychology and Linguistics and Psychology and Philosophy at Oxbridge).
I am aiming to tutor during the summer and will be available every day of the week throughout the holidays from June to September. I would recommend one to two sessions of one hour per week per subject, with more scheduled in the weeks preceding important tests. I am willing to work with students of most levels of enthusiasm and prior understanding.

Katie is a mature and trustworthy student. Eminently committed to her study and gifted academically, Katie shows the same desire for her tutees to succeed. She is very well organised and has an excellent analytical approach. She has the care and rigour that are the hallmarks of an incredible and committed tutor. Katie is an accomplished mathematician who works conscientiously, sets herself very high standards and knows what is needed to achieve the highest grade for herself as evidenced by her study and as importantly for her tutees.
I've known Katie since she was born. She is a clever articulate patient young lady who will make an excellent tutor.
She got outstanding GCSE results, is expecting similarly excellent A Level results and will in my opnion do very well at Oxford next year.
You are lucky to have her on your tutorial roster.View more recommendations
