About Julian
I run the mathematics department at an alternative provision (mini mainstream school) in Hammersmith. The school specialises in teaching children with a range of learning difficulties and special educational needs that require exceptional pedagogical knowledge for teaching.
My understanding of mathematics and its pedagogy stems from research undertaken during my undergraduate degree into developing learner thinking in three areas of secondary school mathematics (algebra, geometry and statistics) followed by further study and research at Masters level at University College London where I specialised in researching learner conceptions of probability.
I have great success with the children I teach with 90% of the children I am personally responsible for teaching achieving a grade 4 or higher (outstanding results for the alternative provision sector). I put my success down to building excellent working relationships students whilst having a clear understanding of learner misconceptions and the pedagogical techniques for remedying them.

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I have known Julian for a couple of years in a professional capacity and have seen him teach at school and I can strongly recommend him. He is passionate about maths, patient, clear, and friendly. He has good track record and is held in high esteem at the schools he has taught at.
Jules is a well-qualified candidate having an Honours Degree from The Open University. Whilst he has been on the course he has shown he has very good subject knowledge to deliver the Mathematics Curriculum in schools and as the course proceeds he is auditing his subject knowledge to identify any weaknesses that may need to be addressed in order to ensure he is confident in the classroom. I have confidence in his ability to deliver A-level Mathematics, to encourage all students to consider higher education and be able to prepare pupils for Russell Group university interviews.
His attendance and punctuality both at Roehampton and his placement school has been excellent. Jules has been able to demonstrate that he can set high expectations in the classroom and deliver successful lessons that engage the pupils. At the Developmental stage of his teaching practice he was assessed as having the potential to meet the Teachers’ Standards at a good level by the end of the course. I was able to observe his teaching at both of his placement schools. He was able to manage the classes well and deliver the learning objectives effectively. It was clear that Jules had been able to take on advice from both his mentor and other class teachers in the school to deliver effective and engaging lessons.
In terms of interpersonal skills, Jules communicates very well and has established excellent working relationships with both staff and his peers at the university. He responds well to challenges, is reflective and willing to act on advice and guidance. Jules has met all deadlines some of which have been challenging.
I have no hesitancy in considering Jules for an appointment to teach. I believe it will be a lucky school that secures his services. As an NQT I believe he could make a very valuable contribution to the teaching of Mathematics and to inspire further Mathematics in school. He completed a DBS procedure to join the course and I know of no reason why this person should not work with children.View more recommendations
