About Julia
Hello,
My name is Julia. I graduated with a BSc First Class Honours in Mathematics from Lancaster University, one of the UK's top-10 universities. With an average of 87/100, I was the second-highest student of my graduating class. I am passionate about my subject and believe that every child can succeed in mathematics with the right guidance. I am a friendly, open-minded person and I am good at listening to the needs of others. As a teacher, I am patient, dedicated and encouraging. I have a wide variety of teaching experience, including both classroom teaching and tutoring.
My most recent employment was that of an assistant language teacher on the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme. For three years I lived in Japan and worked in Japanese elementary and middle schools, assisting classroom teachers with English language education. I planned and taught lessons with enthusiasm and was inspired every day by the cheerfulness of my students. As well as teaching in schools, at weekends I often participated in language and cultural exchange events in the community.
After leaving Japan last summer, I volunteered in Europe with the international programme Workaway. I helped families with a variety of tasks, including childcare and tutoring.
My first insight into teaching was during my second year at university. I participated in the Student Associates Scheme (SAS), consisting in a 15-day placement at a local high school. I observed the classroom teachers and worked alongside them by supporting weaker students. I also planned and taught my own class and gave a presentation promoting higher education. Also at university, I volunteered at two local primary schools working with students who had particular difficulties in learning mathematics.
I have access to GCSE, A-Level, IB past exam papers.
