About Joshua
Joshua has worked extensively as a private tutor both in the UK and abroad, most recently in Italy and Saudi Arabia. Through this work he has developed a style of tutoring in which the student is challenged (through careful questioning) to make their own discoveries and take a high degree of ownership for their learning. He has a detailed understanding of the requirements of both the 7 and 11 plus exams and how these requirements can be translated into manageable goals for a student over time. He has helped students to successfully gain places at Blackheath Preparatory School and City of London Girls School. He can provide tailored assessments and bespoke lesson plans to meet the needs of your child for entry to their chosen school. He has a great love of tutoring as it provides a unique opportunity to focus upon the needs of an individual student. He is currently working with students at Dulwich College and the Heath Preparatory School and he is preparing students for entrance to Alleyn's, James Allen's Girl School and St Dunstan's.
Additionally, Joshua is a tutor who has a great breadth of teaching experience and who believes that every student is individual and has the ability to succeed. He has worked in a range of educational contexts: as a workshop leader, a TEFL teacher and a primary teacher on the competitive Teach First programme. He studied music at the prestigious conservatoire, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, focusing on composition. During this time he worked within the community music department of the school and regularly led workshops for primary age students. Through this work he developed a love of teaching, which he pursued after graduation as a TEFL teacher. He has taught a range of students from the very young to adult learners and this experience means that he has a deep understanding of the English language and how students develop their knowledge through support and encouragement.
As part of the Teach First program, Joshua worked for two years in a small primary school outside Bradford. In the classroom he developed his knowledge of the National Curriculum and an understanding of how children learn over time. He places a very high value upon developing a strong relationship with each of his students, working with their interests and adapting his teaching to their learning styles. As a result of this, his classes consistently made excellent progress. In his current role Joshua works with classes in KS1 and KS2 and leads musical education across a large 3 form entry school in Tower Hamlets.
Outside of teaching Joshua has a continued passion for music, singing in a choir and playing for a contemporary music ensemble. He also has a great interest in educational policy and he works hard to keep himself up to date with developments in education at a local and national level.

Josh is an excellent teacher. He has worked with pupils across our school building excellent relationships. Josh had had experience working with pupils with a range of learning needs, including high strainers and children with specific learning needs. Josh has helped children to make accelerated progress across the year through targeted interventions.
I had Josh help me with my AS Music because I was struggling with a few things on the syllabus. Since I started lessons with him my confidence and interest in the subject improved greatly and I was able to achieve much better grades. Josh was able to answer all my questions as well as giving me additional information on what I was working on, which I was always interested to hear about. He prepares himself extremely well for each lesson and I couldn't be more grateful.
