Piano Teacher, Music Theory Exams, Southwark

Welcome to my page! I am a music-lover, pianist, organist and occasional composer. I have a passion for sharing my knowledge with, and inspiring a love for good music in, people of all ages.

I teach classical piano and music theory, and prepare students for ABRSM exams. I am also able to teach the organ and prepare people for GCSE and A-level music.

I hold a BMus (Hons) from one of the country’s finest music departments. During my degree, I had the opportunity to study piano at the Royal Academy of Music under Professor Colin Stone. I have a PGCE in Primary Education, passed at Master’s level.

I have over 5 years’ experience of teaching piano, and have taken two pupils from the earliest stages to grades 4 and 5. I have played at a number of weddings, and am an organist/pianist at my local church. Whilst working at the training provider, City Gateway, I provided information, advice and guidance to young people, enabling their progression. I have volunteered at my church’s youth club since 2009.

I charge £35p/h. I am happy to discuss discounts for group lessons.

I teach at home, but am happy to travel as long as the distance is not too far. I am based in Southwark.

I am available Monday - Saturday and teach ages 5 and over up to ABRSM Grade 8. I have an up-to-date DBS Certificate.

Tutor - Joshua McConville

Joshua has been teaching my two children for 6 years from the age of about 7. They are now preparing to take Grade 5 and 6 exams.
He found a wide variety of ways of keeping the young children's interest throughout the lessons.
He talks about music in such interesting ways.
His style of tutoring is gentle but persuasive, which has encouraged our children to keep going year after year, even though it includes practising scales.
He is so punctual and well organised.
He writes clearly in their music note books what each child should practice each week, which helps us to check.
He organises a concert once year for them and we invite adult friends to attend, so as to give the children the experience of performing to an audience, which they all find it is a special and happy occasion.
Subject:
