Cambridge student with years of tutoring experience

I am now in my second year of a Music degree at the University of Cambridge.
Having left St Paul's in June 2014, I spent a year working as Music GAP student at the Pilgrims' School, Winchester. I have been tutoring since I was 15 years old, and have taught Winchester, Eton and St. Paul's Scholarship students. For academic subjects, I work mainly with Common Entrance/Scholarship and GCSE level, but can teach A Level Maths as well.

I have taught Piano and Clarinet from scratch, and am also able to teach Music Theory up to Grade 5 level. I thrive from working with kids, especially in helping them along their own educational path.

Fantastic latin tutor

Josh tutored my son in Latin before he sat his 13+ scholarship exams for King's College Wimbledon. He is a great tutor who explained things really clearly to my son as well as making the lessons fun. Josh knew exactly what material needed to be covered. Josh is punctual, polite and a pleasure to have in the house. I would have no hesitation in recommending him and I am sure he would be a great tutor across a number of academic subjects.

Outstanding Tutor

Josh came for weekly sessions over 6 months to reinforce my son’s confidence in his weakest subject, Latin, and to stretch him in his strongest subject, Maths.

Josh was an absolute pleasure to have around. He started by assessing my son’s capabilities in both subjects, and then set him work which addressed my son’s specific skills and deficiencies. Josh made the sessions enjoyable, engaging, and informative. I often found them hunched over a problem, over-running the allocated time. My son looked forward to his weekly sessions with Josh and prioritised his prep for Josh over his own homework. It certainly helped that Josh was young and recently successful in his own scholarship examinations. Punctual, polite, confident, intelligent, and a great communicator, I could not conceive of a better role model for my son.

Subject:
Latin (GCSE)
Outcome:
My son was awarded his place at Westminster through the Challenge with top marks in both subjects.

reference

We first met Josh as a babysitter for our slightly turbulent bunch of 4 children. They all loved to have him come round, play or improvise music with them, talk about films or other of Josh's many interests.
Josh then started to tutor 2 of our children: 1 aged 13, preparing for the scholarship exam at Winchester (Election); Josh tutored him in Latin and Sciences for about 3 months.
Our son was elected a scholar.

He then also tutored a younger son (aged 10) in Latin and Greek. He had join a higher stream in his school (scholarship stream) that had started Greek a term earlier and that was also more advanced in Latin than his previous stream. He managed to catch-up with his class in a matter of a few weeks.

I would recommend Josh without hesitation.
He is punctual, polite, extremely well-mannered, friendly, bright and he has an ability to create a connection to the tutees that makes them want to learn.

As a St Paul's scholar who managed to juggle spending a great deal of his time tutoring while preparing (and acing) his own exams and intense music practice resulting in musical excellence, Josh comes across as someone with unbound energy animated by a clear set of values; this has undoubtedly made a strong impression on our children.
As a result they have tried and managed to stretch themselves to achieve better outcomes.
