Passionate about learning, focused and fun.

Hi, I'm John! Let me start by telling you a little bit about my own education. I attended Westminster School, as a teenager, and went on to study English Literature at Magdalen College Oxford, where I was made a scholar. I graduated in 2016 with a double first. I've been lucky enough to have experienced a great deal of good teaching in my life, and am passionate about the prospect of passing on what I've learnt. Studying at Westminster instilled me with a thorough understanding of the British examination system, and what is required of the student who wishes to excel. I appreciate the importance of preparing for lessons, and utilising all available scholastic resources.

I have worked as a private tutor for the better part of the last year, working with students who ranged in age from six to eighteen, teaching a variety of different curricula, and garnering over 200 hours of one-on-one teaching experience. I have successfully helped pupils gain admission to top London Independent Schools, including Westminster School, at 11+, Common Entrance and Scholarship level. I have also helped older students achieve A grades at GCSE and A-level in English Language and Literature, guiding them through all stages of the process, from coursework to exam technique.

In addition to this, I have cultivated a broad cultural knowledge beyond the limits prescribed by curriculum. I have studied to different levels of expertise French, Russian, Italian and Spanish, as well as learning the Piano, Guitar, Harp and Xylophone. Literature is my great love and I have read extensively, but in my own time I have also pursued personal reading projects in the fields of philosophy, history and critical theory. I have a firm grasp of grammar and compositional structure, skills which are not always taught in the contemporary curriculum. It would be a privilege to pass on these skills as best I can.

Inspiring, knowledgeable and reliable tutor

John was a brilliant tutor to all three of my children, aged 8, 11 and 16. He always crafted exciting and well-structured lesson plans, and the children always looked forward to the next one. As a result, they became far more comfortable with their reading, writing and comprehension skills, and after a batch of lessons we saw vast improvements in their test and exam results. John is very considerate of each child's individual personality and their differing needs, and on top of this he is always on time and easy to communicate with. His passion for the subject and his professionalism made working with him a fantastic experience. I recommend him most highly.

Great communication and high motivation.

We took few lessons with John during half term. My son, who is not big fan of English, really enjoyed it. John is very positive, patient person and easily found the way to communicate with my son. We like the variety of tasks what were offered. Every time my son was looking forward to new lesson. It was great experience and we highly recommend John's tutoring.

Johns nurture and passion to inspire a love for literature and all-round support for the child is so wonderful, in a very short time john has completely changed my daughters connection with novels and stories, after three sessions with John my daughter came home beaming holding an award for excellence in reading and expression, she has just passed an important exam but I can honestly say John is a very invested teacher who clearly has his heart set on the journey a child has with stories and literature rather than the ticking of boxes or passing of exams-my daughter loves learning with John and we are very blessed to have found him, I honestly can't recommend him enough, a very caring and inspiring teacher and person :)
