About John
Hi, I'm John Nichols, the President of The Tutors' Association (2020-present), co-founder of the e-learning platform Get My Grades and a tutor with over 10,000 hours of tuition and tutor-training experience.
I am available to take on a limited number of personal tuition clients alongside my other work representing the tuition profession and working on national and international education projects. I believe it is important to continue to deliver some tuition personally whilst building products for tutors and representing the tuition sector.
What do I offer as a tutor?
- A very broad range of experience in tuition (specifically) and education more broadly.
- I've successfully prepared students for some of the most challenging examinations and courses (e.g. Eton King's scholarship, Westminster Queen's scholarship, St Pauls, Winchester etc, alongside A/AS levels, GCSEs, IB and ISEB 13+).
- Since 2017 I have co-founded, edited and helped to create the e-learning platform 'Get My Grades' which I use with all relevant tuition placements (covering English, maths and sciences). Get My Grades allows me to set more, and more relevant tasks for students and give them control and visibility over their own progress whilst allowing me (and parents) to track how well they do.
- I have extensive personal understanding of teaching techniques, strategies and educational theory/evidence. I am one of the authors and editors of The Tutors' Association's national tutor training/CPD (Continuing Professional Development resources and have run multiple tutor training projects in the past.

John was the perfect tutor for my son Jack. His enthusiasm for this subject was infectious & like other reviewers have said, the structure & organisation of the lesson was perfect. Biology was not my son's favourite subject by any means but John found ways of engaging Jack & the result was an A in GCSE. John is an exceptional tutor which helped my daughter to archive an A at GCSE level. Thank you!
My daughter liked John's structural approach and finally understood Chemistry. We both felt, if we had started tutoring with John earlier, she might have enjoyed the subject during the two years of the GCSE course. I can recommend John highly he was always punctual and very friendly.John is a very competent tutor and knowlegeble and resourceful tutor. Mr Nichols came and helped him to stop panicking, and systematically built his knowledge and ability. His confidence returned (our main aim) and his marks went from 60% to 89%. John also gave him his undivided, non-judgmental attention which boosted his morale and self-esteem. We are very grateful to John indeed.
