About Jennifer

Professional actor with seven years tuition experience

I am a professional actor and graduate from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and have been working in the private tuition industry for over seven years for various agencies, most prominently The Tutors Group. Before drama school I worked as a Primary School teaching assistant and drama teacher for two years, after graduating from King's College London with a 2:1 in my BA (Hons) English Literature & Language degree. I went straight to university from Norwich High School for Girls in Norfolk. So I have travelled all the way across England in my pursuit of study! I always wanted to tutor because I knew how I worked for all my GCSEs, A-Levels and my BA, and I was fed up with the media claiming exams were getting easier for kids: teenagers today work super hard, as I did! Tutoring older students also provided a lovely contrast to my Primary School teaching. I have worked as a private tutor for various agencies and also independently, leading my students through 11 plus, 13 plus, GCSE, A Level, Degree level and beyond. I teach English Literature & Language, Drama & Theatre Studies, History and Classics. I also have plenty of experience in working with much younger students in English as an additional language. I am a confident and enthusiastic individual, and as an experienced dramatic performer and director, I enjoy effectively using these skills to aid children in their learning, leading to a warm, encouraging and happy learning atmosphere. I rapidly and easily create positive, personal relationships with colleagues and children, and believe education should be a creative and inclusive experience for all. I am also on the Directory certified teachers for LAMDA examinations.

Classics AS

Written by Darcy M

Jennifer tutored my daughter in Classics for a period of six months, in preparation for my daughter's AS exams. She proved to be very professional and extremely efficient and provided my daughter with useful hand outs and book references.
In addition to this, she was very pleasant and friendly.

I highly recommend her as a tutor.

I first met Jennifer when I was studying for my English Literature A level. I was struggling with the subject as it was such a massive change from that of GCSE, therefore, my mother decided that I should have a tutor. Over the term I tried 3 different tutors and none of them where really giving me the support I needed or provided me with the tailored understanding that I believe each person needs when they are struggling with a subject. When Jen came along, she helped me massively , not only with the subject understanding, by helping break down the subjects or making them interesting and fun so I stayed engaged, but also making the environment relaxed and fun so I was able to learn. We had an automatic bond and I found learning with her an enjoyment instead of a chore. She understood my level of learning and the best way I could understand things , so each session was tailored to that need and that way of learning. I never felt patronised or down hearted as I had before, therefore I started to do better in my essays and when it came to exam tuition , she knew the best way to approach them without me feeling anxious or nervous. As one of life's over thinkers , I found exams hard , so not only did Jen support me in the understanding and knowledge behind each subject , she also supported me in the motivation and confidence building and when it came to exam days I was able to speak to her and she provided the most kindest and supportive words that I know helped me to pass all my exams to a high level and get me where I am today. Without Jen I know I categorically would not have got where I am today as she provided such a massive help and I use her skills that she taught me to overcome any fears that I may have had and any I have now and any I have today in my own teaching ( I am now training to be a Primary School Teacher). Without jen's support and excellent tutoring skills I would not have been able to overcome my fears, gain a better understanding of those topics and therefore pass them all and also I would not have a made the lovely friend that I have today. Jen , also supported me through A- level drama exams , as having the experience in acting it came as a great help with the written exam but also with the improvised exam, as I went through ideas with her and she helped me to story board and set them out so all my ideas could easily come to life.As well as, supporting my through my tests for applying to do teacher training, Jen tutored me in the English side of the tests and helped to break down each section , Get a better understanding of what was needed, form key notes that I would be able to remember throughout the exam, exam techniques and also general overcoming of nerves and building of confidence. She still supports me whilst in university , if I have any needs or misunderstandings , she provides the best ways to tackle and overcome them whilst also proving an understanding. Being able to have had a tutor like Jen , who breaks down, identifies and creates tailored individual tutoring to your exact needs was a massive help and I have recommended her help to many of my own friends and family who say the exact same thing. She is a massive asset to any child's/ teens and adults learning and is an amazing tutor who can help anyone with a range of topics. Without her determination and support I would not have got where I am today, so many thanks to Jen!
