About Jenna

Efficient, Engaging and Experienced Tutor

I can support across the key stages for English.

I am currently tutoring:
- Students taking their 11+
- Those needing extra support at Key Stage Three
- Those taking GCSE exams
- Students preparing for AS and A-Level English.

I am due to examine for AQA GCSE English Language Paper 1 in this summer exam series.

Having taught English Language and Literature as a full-time teacher in Secondary schools for the past six years, I am aware of the wide range of skills required of young people in the new GCSE specifications. My particular teaching strengths are in language and structure analysis, writing to describe and poetry analysis. I supported my year 11 class last year to achieve results of up to Grade 9 in both GCSE English Language (AQA exam board) and Literature (EdExcel exam board). I have worked one-to-one in the past with students with extra learning needs; I find my background in Psychology and particularly memory services really help this work.

As a tutor since September 2017, I am have studied 'Jolly Phonics' online and am spending an increasing amount of time working with younger students. I also support students at A-level - usually with their essay structure. I will approach each challenge by being as informed as I can be, fully prepared and kind the whole way.

I encourage students to approach their set texts and tasks with a clear process, empowering them to apply these tried procedures once back in their classroom at school. My aim is for my one-to-one support to supplement school teaching and ensure students grasp each skill required.

Tutor

Jenna is an extremely efficient, highly organised and strong teacher of English. She proved to be an invaluable member of my English team where she worked collaboratively with others to provide high quality learning experiences for young people. She is both thoughtful and imaginative in her lesson design and fully understands assessment criteria at both KS3 and KS4. I am confident that she could also deliver at KS5.

Jenna Doubtfire

Written by Eileen N
Jenna tutored my daughter who is severely dyslexic for her GCSE English exams. Jenna was extremely helpful and understanding. My daughter felt at ease and comfortable with her and started to not only enjoy but understand English. My daughter also had a really good relationship with Jenna. We both feel that without her help my daughter would not have passed her English exams. I would thoroughly recommend Jenna to be a tutor.

Outcome:
My daughter passed her GCSE for English which previous to having tutoring we felt that she would not have passed.

Miss Doubtfire

Written by Molly T
Would 100% recommend Miss Doubtfire, I came into year 11 with a grade 4 (a D). I felt hopeless and was starting to give up; Miss Doubtfire's lessons completely changed that. I started to enjoy them all and was always a top contributor. The lessons were always fun and interactive and you could see the amount of work Miss had put into each one. I will never forget having Miss Doubtfire as a teacher and the impact it has had, the progress I made was incredible and it was all down to Miss Doubtfire's impeccable teaching, so thank you.

I went from a 4 (D) at the start of year 11, to receiving a 9 in English Language and an 8 in English Literature.

Personable, encouraging and knowledgeable

Jenna assisted me throughout my psychology BSc university degree. I am dyslexic and she supported me by proof reading all of my essays. She assessed and improved my spelling, punctuation, grammar and vocabulary. In addition she advised me on sentence and paragraph structure. Jenna was encouraging, informative and creative with her tutoring skills, which were enormously helpful with long lasting effects.

GCSE

Written by Becky E
My daughter is currently studying GCSE in English with Jenna and I could not have wished for a better person to teach my daughter. Jenna's teaching style appeals to my daughters age and she is very happy to see Jenna once a week. Ever since we have been having Jenna my daughter has already had few positive feedbacks from her English teacher at school and improved her grade. We intend to continue with Jenna until the beginning of GCSE exams. My daughter has built a rapport with Jenna which has helped in achieving a positive outcome. As well as Jenna having an outstanding teaching skill, Jenna is also very organized and always punctual. I cannot recommend Jenna high enough.
