About Jamie
Hi, I'm Jamie!
I've been teaching Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology to students of all abilities for 8 years and have over 2,000 hours of experience. I'm a full-time professional tutor, specialising in preparing students for Maths GCSE & IGCSE examinations.
In addition to my focus on Maths, I have extensive experience tutoring GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level, IB, Advanced Placement and Subject SATs for Chemistry, Physics & Biology. I've also acted as a mentor to students who have successfully applied to top independent schools and Russell Group universities, including Oxbridge.
When I teach my focus is always on the individual’s needs and in this way I have helped numerous students make sense of subjects that were previously a mystery to them. Both parents and pupils have described me as ‘enthusiastic, ‘passionate’ and ‘inspiring’ – what I hope is a reflection of the energy and professionalism I try to bring to all of my sessions.
I typically teach in person around Central and West London. However, if you aren't based in these areas I also offer online tuition and regularly teach UK and international students this way. I use digital technology, which allows the student to see everything I write and you can see from the feedback below how effective this setup is.
In terms of my academic background, I hold a First Class MChem degree in Chemistry from Oxford University and am a Scholar at Balliol College. I've also published research on a number of topics in Inorganic Chemistry including flame retardancy and polymer catalysis.
My passion for education extends beyond tutoring and I've recently built the website Save My Exams! to develop better revision resources for GCSE and A level students. I also love to play sport and spend time with friends. Whether it's playing rugby or going skiing, you can bet that I've tried it!
Thank you for your consideration and please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

I have learnt more in the last week than I have done in the last two years
Jamie has been working with my son concentrating on Maths, Physics and Chemistry since the second year of his GCSES, coaching him during the holidays.
I needed someone who could teach a dyslexic child, who has always struggled and hated maths.
I found Jamie when I started hunting for a tutor. We were looking for a tutor that did not just have phenomenal qualifications (which Jamie does) but who could actually teach with patience and clarity. Above all, we wanted someone who could make the subjects more amusing, focus on the areas that my son had not grasped and give him confidence.
As a mother, I can honestly say it has been fantastic to find someone who fulfils all of the above as well as teaching all three sciences so he can see where all the problems are.
Jamie has great energy, and infectious enthusiasm about his subjects, which would inspire any child.
He always arrives on time, (by that always five minutes early) and is 100% conscientious, setting home work, and expecting it to be done, and giving you as a parent a thorough written report as to how your child is doing.
Jamie is passionate about education. He has made my son Hector, not only work, but think, and is determined to get the best out of him. As a result we have seen a massive improvement in Hectors capabilities.
As you can see, I could not recommend Jamie more highly, we as a family would not have got through the GCSE syllabus with out him and above all he is a joy to have in your house.Jamie is a talented chemistry tutor, and has been a real gift to our son who is taking Advance Placement (AP) Chemistry - an American advanced level chemistry course, Pre-U equivalent. Jamie has a deep understanding of his subject, can adapt to any curriculum, and has the unique ability to communicate complex concepts in simple terms. Jamie’s passion is infectious, our son looks forward to their sessions together and now even hopes to study chemistry at university.
Jamie is highly professional, always punctual, and cares deeply about the success of our son. It’s not often you find a tutor that cares so deeply about the outcome.Jamie has done a great job tutoring our daughter Sophie in Maths and Science over the past year. Despite initial reservations about online tuition, I now have no doubt that Jamie can make the sessions as effective and engaging as if he were there in person.
Jamie successfully helped Sophie prepare for her 16+ school entrance examinations where she was offered a place at King’s College, Canterbury. He is now helping Sophie prepare for her GCSEs this Summer and after a strong performance in her mock examinations, it’s clear Jamie has made a really positive impact..
Jamie assisted our son in preparation for his 16+ exams. He taught him chemistry. Jamie came in at a very late stage but in a very short period of time has done a great work in helping our son to pass the tests and being offered a place in all three boarding schools (Wellington College, Oakham and Haileybury). We were obviously extremely pleasedYou were recommended to us as the best Maths and Science teacher. You did not disappoint. Layla has thoroughly enjoyed her lessons with you and feels that, with your excellent guidance, she has progressed to a place which was beyond her initial expectation of an A* at iGCSE Maths! Layla is naturally thrilled with the A* that she achieved in her IGCSE Maths this January and is on track to achieve the same in her Science GCSEs this Summer.
We would also like to thank you for your continued support. I know that you are a huge help and wise advisor as to her entire approach. We are extremely grateful and appreciate all the efforts you have made.Jamie was punctual, friendly, well-prepared and organised. Even though the sessions were for 2 hours at a time, he kept Theo engaged and interested throughout. He simplified the more difficult, abstract topics so Theo could understand them and then followed this up by completing exam-style questions and past paper practice. His tutoring style is upbeat, supportive and encouraging. He also had some great ideas for structuring Theo’s Chemistry revision, which Theo has put into practice.
James tutored my daughter Rose in February and March 2015, prior to her taking chemistry GSCE in the summer of 2015. He particularly focused on the more challenging aspects of the syllabus that she had not fully understood at school.
