About James

Recently graduated doctoral student at Imperial College

I currently hold MSci and PhD in Chemistry and have several years experience in both research and tutoring. A core requirement of a PhD is the teaching of undergraduate students. This included personal tutoring to groups of 8 students, lab demonstration of essential techniques, marking of examination papers and personal supervision of the work, safety and well-being of MSci students. I have received awards for my teaching at Imperial College, as well as the personal gratitude of many of the students I have supervised. During my time tutoring I have gained experience in a variety of exam boards, especially the iGCSE and Cambridge Pre-U syllabuses. Coming from a highly technical field, my approach to tutoring is through demonstration and examples. Learning is best achieved when the core principles are presented in a memorable way. This has allowed me to explain difficult concepts in ways that are easily understood and remembered. I am concise, patient and friendly in all of my teaching.
