I have known James Leavey for almost six years, since he first came to work as a Visiting Tutor in the English and Comparative Department, at Goldsmiths, University of London. His contribution to the activities of the Department was excellent. His dedication and his enthusiasm during his time at Goldsmiths were remarkable. Colleagues and students alike particularly appreciated his professionalism and his personal qualities.
In every respect, James’s contribution to the teaching of the First-Year introductory course to Literature and Theory, which I convene, was excellent. Students appreciated his organisational competence, his intelligent use of a variety of resources to stimulate interest and impart knowledge, his own high level of motivation, his ability to motivate others and above all his approachability. All reports regarding his classes attested the outstanding nature of his pedagogical skills.
I have no hesitation in recommending James for a teaching position.
