About James

Oxford-educated Tutor in English, Maths, Reasoning 7+and 11+

ETHOS:

My goal is to encourage every student to stretch themselves to the capacity of their ability, and to cover every syllabus comprehensively and in a creative and engaging manner.

I recognise that different children have different strengths and weaknesses, different confidences and insecurities, and I aim to tailor my methods to suit the individual needs of each student, rather than enforcing a rigid, preexisting framework. I strongly believe in the benefits of 1 on 1 attention as a means of instilling confidence and security for a child's own academic self-confidence. This allows her/him to work purely for themselves rather than in competition with others as is all too often encouraged in the classroom.

Through my lessons, I aim to nurture each student's a pride and confidence in their own abilities, regardless of the achievements of their peers.

EXPERIENCE:

I have been working full time as a private tutor now for over three years now, having worked with over sixty students with a number of London's top tutoring agencies. I specialise in preparing students for entrance exams in the top private and grammar schools in and around London.

I have prepared for 7+, 8+ and 11+ exams, covering Maths, English and Reasoning.

I have been successful in placing my students in schools such as Latymer, City of London, UCS, King's Wimbledon, St Margaret's and more.

I have a particularly speciality helping students moving from the state to private sector.

I have also worked extensively with students in KS1 or KS2 who have required additional help and encouragement with general schoolwork.

As a graduate of Oxford I am also available to help prepare for Oxbridge interviews.
