About Jack
Are you or your child looking to begin a fulfilling lifelong relationship with the guitar? Perhaps you've been playing for some time, but feel there are areas in which you could use some hands-on instruction? Or maybe you're a music maker who would like to tap into the massive creative potential the instrument offers? In any case, I can help you cultivate a great playing technique, whilst also developing your musicianship and musical knowledge.
My name's Jack, and I'm a trained musician and songwriter recently moved to Brentwood. For just £18 per hour (and the first lesson free), I can put you or your child on the path to becoming a skilled guitarist with nimble fingers and a well-honed ear!
Having taught myself from a young age to play acoustic and electric guitar, I understand that musical education is a very personal thing, and needs to be tailored to the individual. If you have any particular aims, those will be our priority, and together we will devise the best plan to help you meet your ambitions. Want to be able to accompany your own singing on an acoustic? Maybe learn all those classic riffs on electric, or tackle some tricky solos? Whether you intend to play for your own enjoyment or desire to prepare for a life of performance, I'll guide you towards your goals with a steady hand and well-rounded lesson plan.
I use a combination of my own material, guitar magazines, online resources and the Registry of Guitar Tutors (RGT) handbooks to provide the most solid foundation for lesson content and each student's personal syllabus. RGT is the largest and most respected organisation of guitar educators in the world, and they offer graded exams across a range of playing styles. If you want to become a qualified player, we can work to get you there.
Don't worry if you can't read traditional music notation, as all these materials include tablature (an easy form of notation used by guitarists all over the world). Having said that, I can teach you to read music if you wish, along with the basics of music theory - it may surprise you how much a bit of theoretical know-how can positively impact your playing!
As a BMus (Hons) and MSc in Music Engineering and Production, I have the expertise to teach you how to actually sound good: from the basics of using effects pedals to sound engineering your band, I'll show you all you need to know when in comes to tone. Want to get into writing, recording and producing your own songs using your guitar playing abilities? I'll introduce you to all the procedures and tools you'll need to know - in fact, I will help you produce your very own track for free once I feel your playing skills are up to the task.
Whether you want to take the first step towards a life of performance and studio recording, or simply want to be able to play along to your favourite songs in the comfort of your own room, I'm here to help you along the guitarist's way. Before our first lesson, we can discuss your aims and areas of interest, so that you can get as much actual content into your first (free) hour as possible! So, just give me a call or send me an e-mail, and within a week you could be heading towards a new world of musical enjoyment.
