About Isabella
I currently work as a freelance tutor. At the moment, I am specialising in A-Level English Literature, but am also available to tutor A-Level Drama & Religious Studies, GCSE English, Drama & RS and English, History, Drama & RS for KS1, KS2 and KS3.
I hold a 2:1 in Theology from Durham University (where I was on a Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship for the Arts) and an A* in Religious Studies at A Level. My other A Levels include As in English Literature, Theatre Studies and Critical Thinking.
I primarily teach essay based subjects, as that is where my experience chiefly lies. Furthermore, my A Level in Critical Thinking has enabled me to objectively identify and fix flaws in essay structure and content.
Regarding GCSEs, I hold A*s in English Language, History and Religious Studies, and an A in English Literature - so here again, my essay skills would be the most beneficial regarding tutoring.
Regarding non-academic experience, I was Festival Director for the annual Durham Drama Festival in February 2015, whilst sitting on the Durham Student Theatre Committee as Festivals Secretary.
I am also an actor, and have just finished playing Desdemona in a London production of "Othello". I have also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival three times. In 2016, I played Sara Crewe in "A Little Princess" (which I adapted myself from the original novel and which gained several 4 and 5 star reviews). In 2015, I played Athena in "The Furies", and the year before played Sybil Vane in "The Picture of Dorian Gray."
I ran the Paris marathon in April 2014 and raised over £1,500 for MacMillan Cancer Support, for which I was awarded Most Committed Participant at the Durham University Charities Committee Awards 2014.
Whilst at Benenden School, I was given multiple positions of responsibility, such as: School Prefect, Deputy Head of House, Captain of House, Head of Middle and Lower School, Weekend Activities Representative and House Sacristan.
These theatrical, sporting and leadership activities and positions have given me experience in building confidence, ambition and self-esteem, which I would like to pass on to my students in order to help them achieve the grades they deserve in their exams or simply to coach them in the subjects they need more help with.

I have known Isabella for over 5 years and throughout this time she has always been passionate about English Literature - whether this be shown by participating in theatre, talking about plays we have seen or discussing books. Not only this, Isabella is a fantastically supportive friend. Isabella's key strengths are listening, understanding and offering intelligent insights. Whilst at University, she was a diligent student, actively engaged in extra-curricular activities (e.g. theatre). Isabella takes a keen interest in constantly learning and often seeks opportunities to learn about culture and literature, encouraging friends to join. This leads to insightful conversations about what we have seen or read. I believe she would make a fantastic tutor given her dedication to learning, interest in literature and passion for helping others.
I've known Isabella for 10 years and she's timely, organised, very intelligent and very patient.
Throughout our friendship she has made time for me when I've needed help and has been an excellent problem solver.View more recommendations
