About Helen

I am currently delivering all tutoring sessions via Skype. I have cultivated an engaging and stimulating online tutoring process which is proving effective with my pupils.

Having read music at Cambridge University and studied maths and further maths at A Level, my range of skills and experience mean I have a logical and systematic mind combined with a creativity and freedom that makes my teaching style fun, enjoyable, encouraging and stimulating. I am an experienced tutor, I encourage pupils to work with focus and in great detail whilst remaining aware of their end goals.

I have worked with a wide range of students and understand the difficulties that can arise when learning maths at a young age. Each student is different and I enjoy adapting to every unique situation, using my creativity to help find tools and strategies to ensure my pupils’ success. Maths requires a logical step by step approach which I encourage my students to adopt. My teaching style is friendly but focused; it is vital my pupils feel comfortable to make mistakes in order from them to learn from them.

I began learning musical instruments from the age of seven and as such I am well aware of the vital encouragement that is needed from a tutor when studying a creative art. I am currently training for a masters in vocal studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, meaning I have a thorough and well-grounded understanding of the voice which I aim to impart with all of my singing pupils. As a singing teacher I work to build my students’ confidence and encourage their individual expression and creativity. A predominantly physical activity, I understand the importance of positive muscle memory reinforcement, making sure my pupils are singing healthily and with the correct technique. I have worked with pupils to develop their voice for relaxed enjoyment and also prepared students for public performances and examinations.

As an academic music teacher I use the skills I developed during my Cambridge University degree to work with my tutees to develop and understanding of the key skills needed to approach music from an academic perspective: analysis, historical context, composition and aural skills. At its core, I aim to instil and develop a love of music in my pupils, as I believe this passion and enjoyment creates a positive learning experience with regards to academic music studies.

The slots available on this website are only there as guidance so do please get in touch if there are no times that work for you. I can also give lessons over Skype and negotiate over price depending on individual circumstances. I am based in South East London but happy to travel as necessary.
