About Hannah
- What kind of experience do you have?
I teach privately one-to-one lesssons and have had experience in taking cello sectionals for orchestras in South Wales and Hackney Youth Music Service. I have been involved in the Southbank Centre's FUNharmonics workshop days where I have introduced the cello to children between the ages of 18 months and 10 years. In October 2017 I was a tutor for Cello Folk! at Cecil Sharp House in London organised by the London Cello Society. I am also a visiting cello teacher at schools in South London.
As a professional cellist I perform on the West End production of Wicked as a deputy cellist, with the London Musical Theatre Orchestra as principal cellist in their play through orchestra and on front desk for their professional concerts at the Hackney Empire, London Palladium, LyceumTheatre and Cadogan Hall. I play solo cello for weddings and functions attended by the Mayor of London and the Archbishop of Canterbury and I am a founding member of folk trio Solasta.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Yes.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I studied for 6 years with Naomi Butterworth at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. I have performed in Masterclasses with Julian Lloyd Webber, Raphael Wallfisch, Leonid Gorokhov and the leader of the Berlin Philharmonic Martin Lohr.

I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM).
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently teach pupils ranging from age 9 to adult.

- Where do you teach?
I mainly travel to pupil's houses currently but please do contact me if this is not a possibility and we can discuss other options.
- When are you available?
I am free most week days and weekends in the morning, afternoon and evening depending on the day. Please get in touch to discuss lesson times.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach any age and any level for cello. For piano I only teach beginners.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I like to motivate my students and am happy to organise ABRSM or Trinity exams should the pupil wish to take them when the suitable level has been attained. It is worth discussing what the student's ambitions are before commencing lessons. However, exams are not for everyone and therefore I am happy to teach those who would rather not take exams. Equal development can take place either way!
- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
Online lessons will be conducted through Skype. Please email me to discuss payment arrangements.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Please do not hesitate in contacting me if you are interested in lessons. I strive to understand my pupil's needs when learning as no one person is the same as the next. I am therefore flexible in my teaching and aim to create an enjoyable atmosphere in which my pupils can learn.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
As a professional double bassist and teacher I can strongly recommend Hannah as a cello teacher. I recently started cello lessons with Hannah for her to look at my overall technique (as it is different from double bass technique). She is very clear with her instructions and made sure I was always using the correct technique to get the best sound.
If you're serious about the cello and want a friendly teacher who will help you accelerate quickly as a cellist, she is the right person for you.Hannah has been teaching my daughter cello for two years. I am very happy with her progress, she is now playing confidently and has a good understanding of reading and writing music. Hannah has an enthusiastic and fun approach to teaching, whilst being calm, patient and supportive.
Hannah is easy to communicate with and flexible with lesson timings. My daughter looks forward to her lessons. She recently passed an exam with Distinction which is a great reflection on Hannah's super teaching.I have known Hannah for 16 years. She is an intelligent, hard working and reliable person. She has natural teaching skills coupled with a kind and honest nature.
