About Grace

Enthusiastic and Experienced Tutor!

I have over ten years of experience tutoring people of all ages in a range of subjects. I know that my education is the reason I have had access to the opportunities available to me and I want to make sure everyone has that option.

In addition to tutoring, I am a PhD candidate at the University of York studying History of Art. I did my undergraduate studies at New York University where I graduated with honors. I studied History of Art and French, and minored in Urban Studies. I have a Master's degree in History of Art from the University of Oxford from which I graduated in 2013.

I am friendly and encouraging. Tutoring should be about developing a student's academic abilities, and not just the knowledge for a particular course. Indeed, I work to bolster my students' self-confidence understanding that every student requires something a bit different. I aim to create a safe and comfortable learning environment in which students feel that they can experiment and take chances.

Knowledgable and warm tutor

Written by Levi P
I was responsible for finding my young niece Sylvia a tutor for beginning French learners, and I contacted Grace after receiving a recommendation about her skills from a friend. What I was immediately struck by was Grace's ability to make Sylvia completely comfortable in the space of the lesson. Grace managed to fully engage an otherwise easily distracted young girl with her participatory methods, her constructive encouragement and a great sense of humour. I am happy to report that, in addition to gaining a strong foundation in French speaking and reading, Sylvia consistently had fun. She has a positive experience on which to build her future learning. For this, I consider Gracie's time and care invaluable.
Highly recommend!

Excellent French Tutor

Written by Isabel R
Grace tutored me in French in college, and was essential in helping me take my language skills to the next level. She worked with me to improve both my written skills - spending time working with me to improve my essay writing - and my spoken French. She was patient, good humored, and professional, and made me feel more confident in French than I could have imagined. I would highly recommend working with Grace.
I improved my written and spoken French considerably over the course of the year.

English Tutor Reference for Grace

Written by Liz R
My 13 year old son needed assistance in essay writing. He had specific trouble with vocabulary and proper grammar. Grace tutored my son twice a week. She helped build his vocabulary using fun activities. For grammar, she also used games to help him understand tense, syntax, and appropriate apostrophes.
Both vocabulary and grammatical usage improved. She helped him become a more confident writer. His grades improved significantly as the year progressed.
