About Glen

You Can Learn and Enjoy It Too !

I have over 16 years experience as a Lecturer. I hold a DBS disclosure certificate from April 2017 and a European Computer Driver Licence (ECDL). I am a good timekeeper.

I have a BTEC HND in Music Technology, that specialised in electronics for the music industry. Essentially the course was electronics engineering for the music industry. I was trained in how to design, program and build electronic musical instruments and equipment and I achieved a Distinction grade in mathematics at level 5.

I had 16 successful years experience as a lecturer of Music Technology at an F.E. college in East London. A number of my former students progressed on to university courses, gained careers in the music and media industries and some returned fully qualified as lecturers, joining me as colleagues at the college and are teaching to this day.

I have Royal School of Music qualifications at grade 3 in piano and sight reading and I can teach basic piano and music theory.
I have expert familiarity with a wide range of IT hardware and software.

I have advanced familiarity with the Apple Macintosh and Windows platforms as well as programming/scripting and creative graphic/audio software knowledge.

I have taught IT units on electronics and music technology courses utilising Microsoft office. I am able to develop interactive multimedia teaching/learning resources and assessment tools. i am also a database deveioper utilising the Filemaker environment.

As a freelance lecturer, I was involved with the development of NOCN accredited courses utilising the Moodle VLE. These courses were approved by OCN in 2009/10. I have also developed and delivered enrichment workshops for groups from year 7 school pupils to adult learners.
My experience as a learning Support Assistant has given me invaluable experience and understanding as a mentor; enabling skills to support learners who have psychological, emotional or physical obstacles to achieve academic success. I work with young people who suffer from autism, Asperger Syndrome, ADHD. I support students who have visual and mobility impairments. I also mentor students who have learning difficulties and behavioural issues.

I was a founding team member of the Music Technology department at Newham College of FE from September 1994-2008. At the start I developed units for the programme, which were approved by Edexcel. I became the curriculum team leader in 2006. Subsequently, I have a good understanding of Further Education processes. I am experienced and very familiar with awarding body (Edexcel, NOCN and NCFE) internal/external verification procedures and UCAS application procedures. I have undergone OFSTED inspection, as well as classroom observations. I managed and delivered to students from entry level to HNC on nationally accredited programmes (BTEC/NOCN/AS).

I have knowledge and expertise using and developing digital audio systems and electronic musical instruments. I have designed projects from circuit board level utilising specialist electronic CAD software. These projects involved writing and developing firmware. Electronics knowledge enables me to understand highly complex and technical digital audio tasks. I am also familiar with script programming concepts through my personal use of computers and my database design projects.

I aim always to encourage learner participation, interaction and contribution.

Glen Mayers Reference

Written by Zinzer M
I have known Glen for nearly 2 decades, he is a great teacher and a very knowledgeable professional, not only in the music technology subject, he also has very advanced ICT skills. As a person Glen is very approachable and very easy to get on with, he is very well spoken and he has a great personality, I was lucky to have been his student and later on his work colleague as a lecturer, Glen was then my boss and I couldn't have had a better manager than him. I consider Glen to be a good asset for any establishment he chooses to work for.
Music Technology
Working with Glen Mayers was the best that could've happened to me, I learned a lot from him and gave me the experience I have now as a music lecturer.
