About Giovanna
There are three qualities that I hold above all else: kindness, strength, and self-betterment. I apply these to all that I do. They are the reason that I continue to challenge myself, and grow as a student, a teacher and a person. These are qualities that I aim to instill in all my students, too.
My passion is English Literature, and I have always loved teaching. After having completed my Master's in Literature at King's College London, I spent two years as a full-time tutor in central London, subsequently working as a teaching assistant at the Great Ormond Street Hospital School. Ultimately, inspired to help as many children as possible, I embraced teaching and achieved my PGDE in Secondary Educational at the Institute of Education, UCL. I have worked as an English teacher and literacy coordinator since then, taking great pride in all the confidence and creativity I have helped cultivate in my classes.
Since joining this site I have devoted over 200 hours to my students. I do my utmost to personalise every lesson, and ensure I target my tutee's weaknesses while making the most of their strengths. I aim to build the confidence and ability of all my students, from children who struggle with basic grammar, to adults writing their first novels.
I have previously worked as an academic proofreader for (concealed information) and specialised in helping those with English as their second language and dyslexic clients find their voices. I have taken two creative writing courses, and have experience working as a copywriter. I have also embraced voluntary work, teaching a six week creative writing class at a local primary school and volunteering with the Reader Organisation in both Leicester and London, running a weekly shared reading group. While working with the Reader in South London, I led a group for individuals with a variety of physical disabilities and mental illnesses, from July 2015 - February 2017.
My other passions include martial arts, music, food and bouldering. I became a blackbelt during my GCSEs, and have experience teaching children (three years and up) as well as adults.
I am comfortable teaching all ages, and hope to incite a love for learning in my tutees! My friendly, approachable and straight-forward manner make me a favourite with kids of all ages, as well as adults - I know how to make learning fun, achievable and exciting!

Perfect! Simply Brilliant
Giovanna came to us highly recommended. It is hard to do justice to Giovanna's many skills as a tutor but I will try. She always arrived at sessions highly prepared and it was obvious she had spent considerable time planning the lessons. She was a mine of information on finding helpful recourses. Giovanna was a patient, engaged, relaxed tutor, and for our daughter I really can't imagine finding anyone better. We did try others. I think the thing that sticks out the most for me, was her enabling way of teaching, she is so positive and I believe her influence gave my daughter the confidence she needed to go for it. We were literally overjoyed when Clara's GCSE results came through. Thank you Giovanna!

Perfect! Brilliant!
Giovanna knows her subject well and has highly effective and engaging teaching methods. She prepares materials relevant to the brief and arrives ready to hit the ground running. She is a warm friendly young woman, my daughter finds her easy to relate to and work with. We are so happy she was recomended to us. Thanks so much. We do not know the outcome yet but whatever it is we are extremely grateful.
Subject : EnglishPerfect! Giovanna is absolutely lovely. She is kind and my son has been in the first lesson very comfortable and immediately taken to her approach of making English fun.
Subject : English
Outcome : Excellent first lessonPerfect! Outstanding tutor for 2017!
Giovanna teaches A level English Literature to my daughter who is home-educated, and in doing so has taken on the responsibility not of supplementing my daughter's college work, but instead of running the whole syllabus. An outstanding teacher, she oozes passion and energy for the subject, and has given my daughter added confidence to do her best work. We could not have found a better tutor anywhere; Giovanna is a tutor who really cares.

Giovanna is an excellent tutor, she is very friendly, patient and responsible, always be well prepared. I would recommend her to anyone who wants to improve English.
Giovanna spent so much time working on my story! Weeks of work on her part, and lots and lots of useful advice. I can't recommend her enough to any writers out there. Especialy the ones that are thinking that now might be the time to get someone to look at your work. Get Giovanna to read it!
She is friendly, calm, gave me a new insight into my work and she is very hardworking.
It was a pleasure to work with Giovanna and I will certainly be working with her again.I would recommend Giovanna without a doubt.
Giovanna has proofread and cut down my University Law essays on a number of occasions. As a law student, writing is imperative to success in the degree. Demonstrative of her caring nature, she has patiently worked alongside me to edit and improve my writing, not stopping until the work had reached a very good standard. I have gone to achieve high 2:1 to firsts in these essays.
In addition to this, she has helped to hone my verbal reasoning skills, teaching me better techniques through practice tests.
Crucially, Giovanna’s humour and patience makes her a joy to work with.I met Giovanna in the first year of my American Studies degree course at the University of Leicester, during which she has helped me in Literature (specifically Classic US Texts, Modern American Literature and other AmLit courses) and in essay writing across the board.
Giovanna is patient, helpful and straightforward. Her methodical approach as a proofreader, peer reviewer and fellow student helped me to view my own writing more objectively and improve steadily. I now feel much more confident in my writing ability, and graduated with a 2:1 (I couldn't be happier!!).View more recommendations
