Gelareh successfully completed a Cambridge ESOL CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) between 7th September and 2nd October 2015, during which I was one of her Teaching Practice tutors.
Gelareh was extremely hard-working on the course and clearly committed to developing herself, and to learning. She participated well in input sessions, and took all aspects of the course seriously. She completed all written components of the course – assignments, lesson planning and observation write-ups – in a timely manner, often well ahead of deadlines and to a good standard.
Gelareh planned independently to a very high standard. She was able to identify lesson aims, making these clear, appropriate and achievable. Her plans were detailed, logically-staged and easy to follow. She showed a good ability to exploit and adapt materials creatively and effectively. She has very good language awareness and so was able to analyse language well and anticipate a good range of problems.
Gelareh delivered effective skills and language focus lessons at low and high levels. She has a very good presence in the classroom; confident, friendly and encouraging. This meant she was able to build and maintain good rapport at both levels, and kept the students engaged and involved. Her lessons were generally student-centred. She developed a good range of teaching skills, including eliciting, some excellent drilling, checking meaning, monitoring and providing appropriate feedback, all of which she is able to use to good effect. Her own use of language was appropriately graded, clear and accurate. She has a good understanding of the learning process, and so was able to manage it in such a way that the students gained a lot from her lessons.
Gelareh made excellent progress on the course, being motivated, reliable and punctual, and supporting her peers well. She showed herself to be professional throughout, coping apparently seamlessly with a highly intensive and demanding course. We know she put considerable hours outside course time into study and preparation, and this clearly paid dividends on the course. She was very receptive to feedback, which she acted on, and reflected well on both her own and her peers’ lesson. She has shown the ability to be a very effective teacher, and a dedicated and focused course participant.
It is for all the reasons that wewould happily recommend Gelareh, and would like to take this opportunity to wish her luck for the future.
