Royal Academy of Music Associate and West End Actor FRA FEE
I work professionally as an actor having performed in the West End productions of 'Les Miserables', the title role in Bernstein's 'Candide' at the Menier Chocolate Factory as well as roles in Shakespeare and film and television. I also played the role of Courfeyrac in Tom Hooper's film adaptation of 'Les Miserables' starring Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe. I also work as a singing teacher for the Urdang Academy and Performance Preparation Academy in Guildford, perparing students for the demands of a professional Musical Theatre career. I began my own vocal training in the classical tradition, studying under Kathleen Tynan at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. I continued studying under Peter Wilson at the Royal Northern College of Music whilst reading music at the University of Manchester. During this time I performed operatic roles in 'The Elixir of Love' and Stravinsky's 'Rake's Progress'. It was in Manchester that I also began to explore different vocal styles, performing in musicals such as ‘Candide’, ‘Sunday in the Park with George’ and ‘The Last Five Years’. Albeit very comfortable in the conductor’s chair, I couldn’t ignore my own passion for the stage and after university, gained a post-graduate diploma in Musical Theatre at the Royal Academy of Music in London. My time at the Academy was immensely rewarding. Not only was I gaining the necessary skills in order to successfully carve a career in the difficult world of Musical Theatre, I was given the opportunity to academically explore the voice, giving me invaluable skills to further my ambitions as a singing teacher. Under the guidance of renowned vocal practitioners Mary Hammond and Anne-Marie Speed, using the Estill Vocal Method, I gained an LRAM Teaching Diploma, enabling me to safely teach all vocal styles, including pop / rock, musical theatre as well the more Italianate and classical traditions that I was accustomed to in my earlier musical education. I would relish the opportunity to impart my skills and experiences to help pupils excel and achieve their full vocal potential.
