Engaging, experienced and enthusiastic student tutor
I have been interested in Physics since GCSE and am currently studying for a degree in the subject. My next passion is teaching, which I have found, through experiences mentoring, tutoring and even teaching whole classes, that I have a strong aptitude for.
From personal teaching experience I know that once you interact with students, once you give them some rein and guide rather than steer them, they develop with far less effort and much better results. My aim is to stimulate and support tutees and make them engage with the subject.
In sciences and maths this problem of dull teaching is omnipresent. I use my enthusiasm to make sciences and maths intelligible, relevant and actually interesting to students.
I am studying Theoretical Physics at the University of York (currently predicted a 2:1) and am starting my application for Teach First’s Leadership Development Programme to do two years of teaching in challenging schools after I graduate.
I have experience of teaching whole classes, gained during a two week long Insight with Teach First and through work experience at my own secondary school. Through Teach First I helped kids from more deprived and disadvantaged areas. This gave me insights into the difficulties faced by children in precarious situations. Being a prefect in my secondary school, I held some minor pastoral responsibilities towards the children in lower years. For instance, I directed a group of Year 7 and 8 children in producing a pantomime. I also help and train students in the University of York’s Mixed Martial Arts Club as club president. I have ample experience of helping and instructing people achieve more and learn new skills and knowledge.
