About Felicity
As a founder tutor at this site, I have worked as a volunteer French and Spanish Teaching Assistant at Pimlico Academy (as programme manager for the this site Foundation team) and led workshops on preparing for 11+ and Common Entrance tests.
I’ve been a professional tutor for over ten years and I am passionate about the subjects I teach. I teach students in the UK, Japan, America, Australia, China, Italy, Russia, Switzerland and France, so I am very experienced in online tuition via Zoom and Skype.
I believe in unlocking a student's potential, helping them access the subject and adjusting each class to their needs. Every child learns differently, so I adapt my teaching style to the individual: creativity is paramount. I have worked with children with dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, sensory disorder and regularly speak to Educational Psychologists and school teachers for best practice. I have been fortunate enough to teach all over the world and with children at both State, Academy and Private Schools.

FRENCH AND SPANISH:
During my degree in Modern European Languages - specialising in Literature - at Durham University, I went to University in France on an Erasmus Scholarship and have lived and worked as a teacher in Spain. Initially qualifying as a TEFL teacher, I taught Business English and Primary English for children in Spain, before going on to teach at my training college (Oxford TEFL). I have been teaching languages to children as young as 6, through to a wonderful 89 year old woman. Fluent in both French and Spanish, I teach French from beginners through to post-graduate level and Spanish from beginners to A Level.
I believe that confidence is the key to understanding a language, and understanding a language helps the memory for learning. I’ve written articles and books on learning languages, so it is my absolute mission to help students fall in love with learning and to have fun in doing so.
My revision books for French GCSE and IGCSE are available on Amazon, from the RSL Educational Ltd website, and in bookshops.

11+ & COMMON ENTRANCE:
I currently teach English from Year 2 through to A Level, and regularly keep up to date with the changes to Entrance Exams. My classes are energetic and good fun; this is key to engaging a student and keeping them interested. I work through the foundations of English, covering grammar and sentence structure to figurative language, poetry, creative writing and comprehension. I look to inspire students in their subjects and try to find the best techniques to help each student learn and absorb; including memory games and learning tricks for those with dyslexia. I focus on expanding the emotional intelligence of a student and confidence building in individuals; helping students understand what is unique to them whilst making sure they don't go into interviews sounding like they've been prepped.
Last year, my students have gained places at: Eton, South Hampstead High School, Haberdashers' Aske's School for Boys, Lambrook, ASL, St Paul’s Girls’ School, Westminster, Godolphin and Latymer, Benenden, Wycombe Abbey and North London Collegiate.
FURTHER INFO:
Previous experience includes working as an English Teacher in my training college in Barcelona, then going on to teach business English at Volkswagen and Danone. I am a senior tutor and confidence coach for other independent tutoring agencies and as a workshop facilitator I have worked for the FCO and for Teach First, delivering workshops on physical presence and vocal skills to teacher trainees. I am a professional Translator and Writer for theatre, books and film, working with the Institut Francais du Royaume Uni.
If I can’t help you, then I’ll be happy to recommend other great tutors I know personally through this site.

Perfect! English Prep for 11+
Felicity came to help my daughter prepare for her English 11+. She was very engaging and provided thoughtful advice. My daughter enjoyed her lesson and found it very beneficial.
Subject : EnglishPerfect! Fabulous Tutor
Felicity tutored my daughter for 11+ English papers (as well as verbal and non-verbal reasoning). It was a steep hill to climb as she had received no preparation at school even in the basics. My daughter's reading and writing levels improved fast and she exceeded our expectations in the exams. She really enjoyed the lessons with Felicity, who was endlessly patient and full of great tips and encouragement - a very lovely tutor!
Subject : 11+ School Exam Preparation
Outcome : Several offers from top London schoolsPerfect! An excellent French Tutor
Felicity, thank you so much for everything you have taught me this winter!
Now I know the basic gramma of French and have more confident on reading and writting in lessons.
Felicity is a great teacher, she is friendly, patient and knowledgeable. She knows good ways to help her students to understand and remember.
Subject : French
Outcome : Understanding French better and have more confidence.Perfect! Excellent tutor
Our son was lacking in confidence and skill, and was not keen on using a tutor. However, Felicity's first visit, and every subsequent one, was an enormous success and he looked forward to his tutorials with her. We would thoroughly recommend Felicity to anyone. She is fun, cheerful and conscientious, and managed to convince our son to work hard, with enthusiasm, on all aspects of his iGCSE.

We found Felicity to be extremely personable and engaging, professional, totally reliable, and highly effective. The fact that our daughter actually looked forward to her weekly online lesson says it all, and her performance in English improved markedly over the eight months or so of tutoring
Felicity is an absolute joy to work with. She has helped our daughter achieve an excellent 11+ result, and now works with our other children. She makes lessons fun so that the children don't dread her sessions and is always very positive, flexible, and easy to work with. We can't recommend her highly enough!
We were lucky enough to be introduced to Felicity when our son was ready to give up on foreign languages. He is dyslexic, so languages were tricky and the school approach wasn't working. And then along came Felicity, who we employed to see if a period of one on one tuition could help. She completely turned things around from him failing dismally and all the emotions that go with that, to being able to keep up and now looking at taking GCSE Spanish. Something no-one thought was possible except Felicity.
What makes the difference is she is creative and notices how pupils learn. And then restructures the learning around what works for them. Looking at ways to engage and capture attention. She always went the extra mile and was so effective the school asked to be put in touch with her and she ended up advising them on how to teach dyslexic children foreign languages. I love that she always goes beyond expectations and I cannot recommend her highly enough. Felicity is a star.Felicity is wonderful! She works miracles. She is both hilarious person and a wonderful teacher and there has never been a dull moment in our lessons! She saved me and my French GCSE and I learnt so much, so quickly, and without even realising it, she transformed my French abilities in a very short space of time (provided that you work equally as hard as she does) She also makes great puns too!
Felicity hugely helped my son with his French Common Entrance in 4 months. She hugely improved his written and spoken French and his comprehension.
His accent which had been fine became impeccable.
Felicity was able to pin point his weaknesses and improve them hugely, giving him confidence and excellent study techniques.
He achieved an A- in CE, and French became one of his strengths as opposed to one of his weaknesses.
My son also really enjoyed his sessions with Felicity's who managed to make them fun. They had a good time together.
She is a fantastic teacher, who manages to make studying French enjoyable!Felicity taught my daughter Jessica Spanish after she had failed her mock GCSE exam.
If anyone could get her through the GCSE it it was Felicity.
Jessica loved the lessons with her. Felicity is a vibrant and fun teacher with innovative methods to keep the students engaged and motivated.
She went from hating Spanish to wishing she had had lessons form Felicity earlier as she may have chosen the A Level. She looked forward to the lessons with relish and I heard laughter throughout.Felicity taught our son (15) French for 2 months in the run up to GCSE Mocks & for GCSE assessments, as he was loosing confidence in the oral work.
She quickly restored his confidence with 1-1 speaking practice. Each time she came she had a clearly structured lesson prepared dealing with topics from the GCSE syllabus and left revision notes as a reminder.Felicity, thank you so much for the support you have provided both to Fred (for 13+ and for the occasional confidence dip) and to Camilla (for her GSCE). You are a fantastic teacher and I know that they both love having your support. It is a treat to find someone who combines being lovely and patient with being firm and organised.
Your help has made a remarkable difference to their resultsFelicity joins my Year 11 bottom set every week and supports identified students, in class on the tasks set. More recently she has adopted the C/D borderline group to work with each lesson. The students love working with her and have welcomed her support from the first moment she walked into the room. They are quite a shy group who lack confidence and she has managed to bring out the drive and motivation in them to work hard and achieve. Even at the end of her first lesson, the boys she worked with held back at the end to say thank you and how much they'd really appreciated her support.
Felicity's background in drama means that she has a very strong presence in the classroom as well as imaginative and fun ways of teaching new areas of language. She has a very positive and motivating personality and has an outstanding level of French language. She is utterly professional, reliable and communicates throughout the week with me to see what she more can do. She'd make an outstanding teacher and her work with us makes a huge difference.Felicity is a sensitive and inspiring tutor, knowledgable and very organised. We highly recommend her.
Felicity is a wonderfully engaging and motivating tutor. She makes languages exciting for all, even those for whom it does not come easily.
Truly unique, Felicity finds methods of teaching that works with the specific individual and helps to them achieve their highest goals with ease.
